What's with the Scion tC factory fill...

I have a tC too, though I've only put 1600 miles on it in six months. I too of course, like a true BITOGer have been agonizing when/what oil to put in there for its first change and had pretty much settled on GTX 5w30 myself... and now someone has to bring up moly. Can someone please refresh me as to *why* moly would be good for break in?

Ugh... Now I'm stressing again, not to mention the stress of having too many months and not enough miles on the factory fill.

BTW, tCs are built in Toyota City, Japan, not the US.

Oh, and honda suxors

Moly stick better on cylinder walls and basically enhances the oil by making better at doing what it's designed to do. I had a pretty good size stash of Havoline and Cheveron at home that's high in moly that I was planning to use. I have no idea why is this goot for breaking in, because I thought breaking in is suppose to be.... breaking in.

I then concluded that it should be the other way around. Moly after breaking in. Now, I am not the smartest guy around, so please don't stone me over this. I believe the tC is built in a city starting with letter A. But I won't be suprised if they shift the manufacturing over to the US in a few years if there's enough demand for them.

I think I'll buy those filters since toyota filters have always had good reputation. Plus my gf is about to buy a xA and they use the same filter. Thanks Scott.

Engine noise and smoothness change tells me that you changed viscosity from the factory fill.

Now the question is, did you use 5w30 or 5w20?

Castrol GTX is a fine oil, but if it were my car i might want to use an oil with a high moly content to complete the first few thousand miles of break-in. Havoline or Superflo come to mind as good examples. I believe Superflo is the factory fill for 'yotas built in the US.

As for your filter, the Bosch are fine, but they are identical to WalMarts "supertech" line which is a lot cheaper. You may want to look online and see if you can order some OEM Toyota or Denso or Npn filters, as they may be of higher quality.

Note: BITOG member 'BillinUtah' seems to have had very exceptional luck with regular pennzoil 5w30 dino oil in his Toyota 4 cyl engine.

SSQ: the xA uses the YZZF2. it's a smaller filter, so I don't know if you can use the YZZF1 on the xA.
Same deal though.

YZZF2 10-pak

They DO???

Most aftermarket filters have the 2.4L camry, corolla, xA, xB and other toyota 4 cylinder engines use the same filters.

I can see why though. Cost cutting working it's magic.
