Jettas are unreliable junk compared to Corollas, I think, because I've heard that before. Just because something is easy to parrot doesn't mean it's true.

Not sure which jeeps you mean specifically but the TJ like my dad's Rubicon feels very twitchy in heavy snow because of the short wheelbase. I feel like anything that short wouldn't be too stable in slippery weather.

My extended cab 4wd 1/2 ton with Goodyear duratracs feels as stable as my 83 Caprice with cheap winter tires did. The difference is the truck can go through deep snow and start off on hills in heavy snow with zero issues.

Lots of people drive these vehicles in bad conditions on the highway like they're invisible. Being 4wd doesn't necessarily help the stopping or handling other than the extra weight. If there is ice anything can wipe out.

Any AWD with snows will outperform truck going forward, whatever tires it has.
But it is irrelevant, going forward does not kill people. Not being able to stop does.

100% - they are the AK-47 of the vehicle world. Fill the engine with dirt, probably will run. Missing a part, stop at local village and take part of something random, probably will work. I rented the most recent gen, a 2019 to do some field work last year, they are much larger than they used to be. The V6 is ok, nothing to write home about. Very trucky.

CarComplaints.com is good entertainment, but it's just people self-reporting complaints. Guess what? Vehicles with high production volume will get more complaints.

I drove my 1997 Explorer with 217K miles to work today, like I do most days...not reported on CarComplaints.com.

S&R in Bosnia had bunch of 3.0ltr D4-D Hiluxes. They replaced them after few years bcs. of unreliability. They went back to Defenders and Puch G models.

We've never been able to buy diesel Hiluxes here. So that's irrelevant to the "allure of older 4Runners" here.

I was referring to ISIS comment and Hiluxes, as it seems that is relevant, bcs. it is reliable.
Of course the US did not have diesel. Cheap fuel allows different strategy, allows manufacturer to stick to rudimentary technology.
If they did, we would have different conversation.

It is not diesel lemon. Toyota actually had to test fuel pumps across Europe to determine which ones to include into recommendation, bcs. unlike those uber unreliable BMW's, VW's etc. their diesel engines needed pretty much laboratory clean fuel.
Not to mention that their 2.2ltr diesels could not make 100k km without disintegrating.
Now they just use BMW engines.

The 4th gen 4Runners 2003-2009 had an optional V8. The 2UZ-FE and 2UZ-FE W/VVT-i (2005-2009).

The Dual VVT-i 1GR-FE in the 5th gen 4Runner (2010 -2021) has more peak horsepower then either version of the previous V8. The V8 did have more power at low RPM.

There are several options for forced induction on the Dual VVT-i 1GR-FE, if someone feels they need more power than the previous V8s ever produced.

Took a ride in the passenger seat of a friends 2002. I don't get what many people see in these trucks that the prices are so high for them. The interior room at least from the front seat is no more spacious than a Corolla of that year while the ride is much worse. My Smart or Fiat feels more spacious. I can only imagine how it sucks gas. Why are these bringing $7-8,000 when a same year more roomy and comfortable Explorer Grand Cherokee or Trailbrazer is only a third that?

That GX460 desperately needs to go to history. I am waiting to see how that 3.4TT will do and what is in line for Sequoia replacement.

They stole F150, GMC etc. When ISIS took over huge part of Iraq they ran into all kind of vehicles that were delivered by the US. There are many F150's on photos of ISIS too.
And again, those are all gassers.
