Whats my viscosity with this mix?

SMILEY, it's way more complicated than that. consider that the recognized SAE vis grades are *ranges* and not an absolute data point. As an example, you could start with two different 15W40 oils, one that is on the borderline of being a 15W30 and the other one at the opp. end of the spectrum very close to being a 15W50. now throw that variable into a mix of two different grade oils, and the picture's even fuzzier.

The only way to get a solid answer is to use oil analysis, with visc testing @ both low and high temps.

why not just get yourself a decent 10W30 oil and start drivin'???!

I need it to be more complicated than that!

I have been running M-1 10-30 and it has been fine. I dont want to pay $ for just fine. I like the add pack in the Delo but want to dilute the viscosity down a bit for MPG purposes. T-Kieth did something like this with good results on his 3.8.

code:

60% Delo 15w40 125cSt @40°C, 15.1cSt @100°C

40% MC 5w20 49cSt @40°C, 8.8cSt @100°C

-------------------------------------------

86cSt @40°C, 12.2cSt @100°C VI 137

You end up with a very thick Xw30. The "w" part is unpredictable because of the lack of knowledge of how the VIIs and PPDs effect the different base oils.

You could mix a batch and do a freezer test with all three to get some insight. Do it again with a used batch to see if it changes over time/use.

The big unknown is whether the add packs clash. Consulting Terry to answer this question would be prudent.

427Z06,

Thanks for the help. Thats what I was looking for.

Why not Delo 400 10w30 ?

I could not find any. The MC blend also has a small amount of synthetic. But thanks for the roll eyes smilies, that was the biggest help of all.

Well, they may compete for the same turf in our infamous film and AW formations. The worst effect is that you get less out of them then you could. I try and blend along the same line within a given producer if I feel the need for "altered states".

If you like the Delo add pack, great!
But if you dilute it away, what is the final advantage?

Its not like the MC dosnt have an add pack. Even mixed it is still very good.

What is the final advantage? This is an experiment and we shall see.
