0-20 or 5-30 for 15 and 17 chevy 5.3 trucks ? How about the 5-30 in my 11 tahoe ? Should i step up and use 10-40 in it ?
This use to be so easy back in the old days. Thanks for the opinions !

0/5w-40 isn't much more than 5w-30. I use 5w-40 in my 2021 6.2. 10w-40 is ok but not amazing. You can buy warren made mag 1 10w-30 for 2.79 a quart so 10 quarts is 28 bucks with free shipping. I buy the thicker mag1 15w-40 for my old high mileage trucks with have over 600k combined with original internals so I feel like using thicker still.

5w-30 is going into my ‘16 Suburban next month, just deciding if I want to go with:

HPL NoVII 5w-30 (I like the 3.399 hths)
HPL PPPCMO 5w-30
HPL PPCMO 5w-30
or
Amsoil SS 5w-30 (I have on the shelf)

whichever I chose I will run the full OLM for my changes.

If your not having consumption problems with what your using, why change now?. My '11 chevy equinox will use a qt of 5w30 every 750 miles. I bumped it up to 10w40, and now it uses a qt every 1500 miles. I can live with that, or I can spend the money and rebuild the engine. If it wasn't using so much oil , I would still run 5w30 in it.,,

I see your HPL NoVII has a HTHS number of 3.3399, my Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 has a number of 3.5
When I run out of my Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 for my vehicle I might try this oil, so far, I am having good results with HPL CK-4 10W-40 in my Riding Lawn Mower.

No VII Euro 5w30 has an HT/HS of 3.566 and is certainly fine to use in LS engines without worry.

I forgot that the HPL VII Euro had a different HTHS Number versus the HPL PCMO VII Oil
It is not fair to compare a Euro spec oil to the Watered-Down spec oils, let's be realistic, the only speck oil we have that can compare to the Euro Spec oils are the CK-4 spec oils. JMO

The 15 and 17 call for 0-20. I think that is just thin for my liking. I think i will bump them up to 5-30 or 10 40. I may do the same with the 11 which calls for 5-30, bump it to 10-40. I don't think it will cause any harm with the AFM system.

Unless you’re going to run a conventional 10w40, there aren’t many synthetic choices out there at reasonable prices.
With all the hoopla about the 6.2L running on 0w20, the Dexos approved 0W40 seems like a logical choice for all 2014 and newer GM V8s.

i have a 03 silverado with a 5.3 , its gotton 5w30 all a long , doesnt use a drop , it currently has 10w30, i got a bunch from a walmart clearanc for 5$ a jug , mine is a simple engine , newer than that is more complicated , but i just cant see how a 5w30 or 0w40 would hurt things in your engine
