What’s in HM oil ?

What makes a High Mileage oil different from non High Mileage oils ?
The voa on Quaker State Synthetic 5w30 vs Quaker State 5w30 High Mileage is not a lot different other than the High Mileage has a much larger amount of Boron compared to Quaker State Ultimate Durability. So what's the additive that makes it High Mileage ?

High Mileage oils usually have more seal conditioners for the old seals. Not much else of significance.
Another thread noted that High Mileage oils might not be sold as much in the future as oils are now said to be "All-Mileage" for old and new engines. (Shell Rotella Gas Truck and Castrol Edge)

Totally understand what your saying
But in the additives listed for both oils, the High Mileage oil has nothing different than the Synthetic

Those oils have different base oils, conventional vs. synthetic, which by itself will trigger formulators to use different amounts and types of chemical additives, some of which do not show up on elemental ppm readings. Can't tell everything from this kind of VOA. Some clues are there. Not many though.
The need for High Mileage oils isn't great due to use of so many silicone rubber seals that don't respond to much anyway.

There have been threads on this before.. from what i remember its the amount of detergents.. (thought process being that an older high mileage engine will have more deposits and varnishes).

And seal conditioners.. all oils have them.. I dont think anyone has ever said what the seal conditioner actually was..or if it even shows up on an oil analysis.

There have been claims that HM has alot more seal conditioners..but i dont think there is any way to prove it.

Actually Valvoline conventional and Maxlife as well as both flavors of Super Tech syn are the same price off the shelf. They all get you big time for oil changes though. Think branding of oil is in a big shake up right now. Always afraid that my oil change place will declare Valvoline conventional a semi syn and decline my stash of ten buck oil coupons.

Think that Maxlife has slightly more robust additive levels while HM Super Tech is identical except for slightly more seal conditioners.

The seal conditioners are not going to show up on a VOA like the one pictured from PQIA.

To see those compounds it would take a much, much more expensive analysis test to be performed.

Use your Google machine and search for "what's in a high mileage oil"... there's a wealth of information out there.

Spoiler Alert: it's more than just added amounts of FM's and SCA's.

That's not accurate. They may contain higher amounts of FM's or higher lvls of dispersants to combat blow by or have higher (double digits) TBN or a different detergent pkg to combat sludge... plus, when did lubes STOP being ok for use on any mileage of vehicle?
