A while back, I used 0W-40 M1 in my 4Runner.

Some of you might recall that I complained that it sounded like a tin bucket full of ball bearings with increased engine noise over the 5W-50. That's when I started using Delvac 1.

My local dealer has been waiting months to get Delvac 1 in, so I tried 0W-40, but it's now supersyn.

Sounds great.

What's the difference with supersyn ?

Supersyn has a PAO type synthetic additive "SuperSyn"..supposedly developed through their racing program. SuperSyn is an improvement over the non-supersyn.

I used M1 0W40 Trisyn way back but UOA's confirm Supersyn is a better product. I remember a lot of people frantically buying up Trisyn as SS was going to be a dud. How wrong they were!

I think it's reduced ZDDP, the addition of moly, the 'supersyn' addative, and speculation of elimination or severe reduction of esters used. Maybe the supersyn addative offsets the pao-seal shrinkage issue without the need for esters (aka cost savings)...since it seems like the wear improvement comes from the addition of moly. In other words, if 'supersyn' was such an awesome new anti-wear addative, then why the need for moly (old school)??? Mobil's marketing machine lives on...
