The link I posted is a pipe cutter. I seen a youtube video where a guy used the same exact one and cut open a filter. I might buy this one.

Any place that sells tools probably has them but I don't know if they make them to cut up to 3 inches. I may keep a look out for a used one or at a discount tool place, if it would work.

I am ideally looking for something that will cut open even diesel fuel and oil filters so something that has a wide or big opening to cut open a big filter. I found a large industrial cutter that is like $65 bucks and made in Erie. Some of the cutters you folks posted probably wouldnt cut open a PH 820 CHAMP equivalent.

Your bare hands! ...nah, don't follow my advice on that one. I'm still trying to pry the canister off of a Wix filter I cut the base plate away from month ago.

I use an oscillating power tool with a metal cutter on it. Takes about two minutes to cut around the can and I'm in.

Cut open about 10 filters this way so far.... works great.

Looks exactly the same as the one from Summit Racing . I also have that opener and can tell you from personal experience, it doesn't work particularly well (smoothly) on filters ~3" and smaller filters(see pic below). The filters don't hit the guide wheels. That said, it will work, but IME on smaller filters, not as well as the HF exhaust cutter.

Is this it? I was thinking about buying this one.

Oil filter cutter

Yep. I have cut maybe 50 filters with it. Works well.

Well, the picture shows an AAP TG #7317 which is the same as Puro #14610 with an OD of 2.69". As one can clearly see, the filter does meet the two guide wheels. The result is the filter can's seam rubs up against the bar rather than turning smoothly on the guide wheels. Note, didn't say it can't be made to work on smaller filters.

OTOH, the wider 14459 with an OD of 3.15" just barely reaches the wheels, and turns more easily rather than merely rub on the bar. Any fiter(s) with a >3" OD would work better with the Summit cutter. Not sure what size filter the Scion uses.

So, unless they have very recently changed the design of the Summit to narrow the distance between the guide wheels, I have found the HF exhaust cutter with 4 cutting wheels to work more smoothly on my filter apps including the 14459. "If" the Summit cutter has recently changed the design, be interested in seeing pics showing

Well mine is the speedway. If mine was not touching the guide wheels I honestly did not notice as I was able to cut them open with little effort.
