Don't get me wrong, many more calories have come in close proximity to my thyroid than should have, so I cant blame it, but...

my career is conversion of energy into energy, in the most efficient basis...seeing unburned "fuel" in waste streams means inefficiencies.

Silly things like corn and capsicum skins that you see the next day.

What's the nett energy balance from eating corn ?

Take a tablespoon of parrafin oil, about the most calorific thing you can stick in your mouth...and it comes out nearly unaffected ?

Why isn't "fibre" counted as energy, and if "soluble fibre is soluble", then even moreso.

One calorie is the amount of heat needed to raise one gram of water one degree centigrade. How the body uses it is a different equation. Ed

If you want to learn about energy conversion from food into how much humans use look to the cattle (and other animals used for meat) and dairy industry. The farmers income depends on how much an animal gains per day in weight or milk produced based on a pound of feed. There has been a lot of research into this and most if not all feedlots and dairies have nutritionists that changes the feed ration based on the price of the feed and the associated outputs of the animal.

To answer your questions: 100 grams of raw corn will give 86 calories according to the USDA. Most of this comes from starch, which is 4 calories/gram.

Soluble fiber is counted as energy, 4 calories per gram. Insoluble fiber (think cellulose) is as implied not digestable, therefore 0 calories per gram.

Back to the corn - if you eat it whole, your body does not digest it very well. If you made corn bread with corn flour, you won't see it since the particle size is smaller and more of it has been used by your body.

In human figure calorie shortage which will attain a healthy, slow, and direct weight loss, while encouraging long lasting changes in dietary patterns. This calorie shortage can best be realized by shaving 250 calories off of your nourishment admission, and afterward participating in physical action to blaze 250 calories.
