No one said that. But the base stock is about 85% of the total package. Base stock is very important to the final product. This is why there is so much discussion here the differant groups.

If you are open to other makers, PP, QSUD and Ultra are better oils than MSS and are probably every bit as good as M1.
If you've had good results with Kendall HM, why switch?
Also, 93K is not high mileage for a four cylinder Honda.

Aren't PP, QSUD, Ultra, and MSS grp3? I believe M1 has the better base stock.

I doubt that M-1 has a better basestock with its mixture of 18 different or is it this week 21 different base oils?. All the aforementioned products are likely more similar than ever.

Actually M1 says 15. Here's the link. Scroll down to "not all synthetics are equal, video.

SOPUS oils have also proven themselves to be very good in actual use.
Not saying that M1 hasn't, but based upon the measured specs met as well as performance in use, I doubt that the SOPUS oils have basestocks in any way inferior to those used in M1, without regard to any claims made by XOM.

I don't like the oil and I'm swapping it out tomorrow after only 4k because now all of a sudden my consumption is ridiculous and the engine is still noisy (never consumed nor made noise before; same filter used).

Mobil 1 may be acceptable but I would much rather recommend Pennzoil Platinum. Probably a better oil for cleaning anyhow.

in my f150 mss was quieter than m1. mobil 1 had more valvetrain chatter, especially when cold. this is and attempt to post my uoa on mss E63051.pdf

the mss was actually very quiet. mobil 1 wasnt horrible, just had valvtrain chatter, similar to pyb when cold. both m1 and pyb chattered some until warm. mss was actually quieter. i switched to it from pyb when it was $3.49 a quart at oriellys last year. i bought $300 worth os mss and it lasted me 40k miles or so. after i went with m1 from wally world. i prefer mss in the 5.4l as far as other engines m1 may be better. i just know i like the mobil super line, it shows good uoa and performace for a really good $.

Titanium starts working at lower tempratures than moly or ZDDP so that could be why the chatter goes away quicker on mss.

They call it Visom.
All of these oils contain a blend of basestocks.
Some flavors of M1 contain more Grp IV than others, and this is probably true for the SOPUS oils as well.
Based upon their specs, particularly cold performance and NOACK, I don't think that the basestocks used by SOPUS are in any way inferior to those used in M1 grade for grade.

Yep, Viscon. Read the link I provided above. I noticed you said "probably true", concerning Pennz base stock. XM tells us their base stock is a blend of base stocks equal to an all PAO stock. Pennx does not. XM has Viscom, Pennz does not. That's why M1 has the superior base stock to Pennz.

No need for Viscom or PAO when you have your own supply of GTL and XHVI base stocks.

That's very possible. I'm fond of those oils with titanium. I've only used the Mobil super line, and like them a lot. I've heard the Kendall and castrol oils are excellent as well

I agree. You cant get 6% NOACK without some Great base stocks.

Where do you get the idea there are 18 to 21 different oils blended together to make Mobil 1 ?
Have you been drinking PYB ?
