What would you put in a 05 T-56?

And which actual fluid are you trying?

GT500. 80% MC XT-11-QDC, 20% XT-M5-QS. Cold shifting is brilliant, but shifting when hot not as good as I want. Switched today to 75:25 mix (7.7cSt at 100c) with XL-18 friction modifier. We'll see how that works.

Do you know who actually makes those for Motorcraft??

From what I've read, they were developed by Castrol for Ford Europe, but as for who blends them in the USA, I have no idea. Probably the "lowest bidder".

You mean the residual wetness from draining the ATF? Won't hurt it a bit, they are miscable. The new dedicated MTF should be a huge upgrade.

What fluid did you finally decide on?

I'm waiting to hear a review from dailydriver before I order anything. Otherwise I will go with the Honda MTF because I have easy access to it. And it just sounds so wrong "Honda MTF in my T56" It will spark interesting conversation among my GM LS performance friends.

3 quarts of Motorcraft XT-11-QDC, 1 quart of Motorcraft XT-M5-QS and a single 0.9 ounce bottle of Motorcraft XL-18.

Cold shifting (in summer weather) is brilliant, and warm shifting is excellent too now. It's a lot quieter too - I didn't realize how much noise the TR6060 made until it stopped.

I have a track day coming up later in July, so I'll know then how it behaves when it's hot. The gearbox has a cooler.

Shark, I am not super impressed with the Ravenol MTF-2 as far as shifting performance goes so far (especially for the cost involved!), but then I do have 170K miles on this never rebuilt, untouched T56, and it's only been in there for ~1000 miles or so.

I STILL wish that Red Line would produce a thinner, ~7.5 cSt @100* C MTL, as that is what I would use YEAR 'ROUND in this gearbox, and I believe it would be PERFECT.

I may try the Amsoil MTF next, despite it's ~9.5 cSt @ 100* C viscosity (still about 1.0 cSt lower than Red Line's MTL), and just live with the slight winter season notchy grinding into 1st & 2nd until up to operating temps.

I have 173,000 on mine and it shifts like a dream, maybe it would be wise not to mess with a good thing.

Yes, well IF I was not made sooooo paranoid by everyone on here telling me that ANY Dex 3 ATF (even the absolute BEST ones available) just CANNOT protect/lube everything in my T56 even half as well as even a fair, non-synthetic, MTL, I would just use the Red Line D4 year 'round and forget about it!!

It DID actually shift the best with THAT fluid in there, as far as feel and lack of 'notchiness' are concerned.

I've tried a few - Mobil1 ATF, Honda ATF, Redline D4ATF, Pennzoil Synchromesh, Royal Purple Syncromax(?) - but now using Redline MTL and it's the best for shiftability. The RP was second best, but seemed pretty thin when I drained it. Anyway the synchromesh type fluids seem to work better than the ATF which is called for. I do live in a hot climate, which makes a difference, since it shifts like [censored] when cold no matter what's in it.

Yes, IF I lived there (went to school {UofA} there MANY years ago) or Tejas, or any of the southern tier states, I would just use the MTL year 'round.

But it will get down to below zero here in the winter at times, and the MTL WILL cause grinding shifts at those ambients, or even below ~35*F, in a T56 until up to operating temps.
