Another one of my posts
smile.gif

My mother is really crippled up and 4-5 months ago I hired a cleaning lady that came highly recommended
to help her just one day a week...
Okay........ The second week in the laundry detergent started getting depleted and no she doesn't do clothes- I do.
I told my mother maybe she's in a bind and LD. is cheap so no big deal

She does do a nice job. Then other little things of not much value started disappearing.
Okay..........

But the last few weeks prescriptions started being used up at a rapid pace....... lol
Not narcotics but stuff like Tylenol, Synthroid, and minor stuff.

So at this point, its time to go.
Should I wait after T-day to Trump her or should I do it now

Or should I be indirect and cute and tell here we can no longer afford her services- hint, hint...

Now I'm entertaining myself and know what to do but just asking you folks here. This could be exciting.. lol
BTW- this is a true story and I have no time for thieves.

You could be "indirect" and make a show of installing security cameras, while this person is there, under the guise of doing so for security purposes. "Oh it's in case we get robbed during the night, or when away, or somesuch". That could send a hint. Seems like more than a few coworkers have security cameras in their houses, it's not that uncommon, and even in "nice" areas too. Might be warranted, in case the next cleaning person is no better.

I'd boot her now, before she steps up the game and really rips something off of value. I have ZERO tolerance for thieves like that. We went through the same thing with my FIL about 6 years ago. I had the honors of booting the guy who was taking care of him. We suspected him to be drinking and stealing things, it turned out to be true. Long story short our conversation lasted less than 30 seconds, and out he went. Never once did I raise my voice.

Why give her another chance to steal, just tell her you don't need her services anymore.

agreed, tell her to move on and busy one self with finding another cleaning service, but easier said than done. you want honest people working for your elderly parents. my family has been through this with my elderly mom and it is a challenging task.

best of luck and good wishes

Good for you........
You make valid points. Who knows she may rip off some of my synthetic oil and Ultras I left at my moms house
to do her cars. That would be war....... grin

But one thing I hate is when they start lying and denying it. I'd rather they not. You know when your voice gets weird, your legs twitch and you want to kill. I'd rather avoid that... lol

My last paragraph explained that rather nicely I thought

Thank you John...
Appreciate your post. Yes I will take care of it very soon and in a rather polite manner.
Best wishes to you as well.

Had the same thing happen with an occasional housekeeper when I was a kid, under different circumstances.
All the t-shirts and underwear belonging to my brothers and I disappeared routinely.
The housekeeper had a few boys too, and my mother graciously endured it, knowing she was helping another family. It's still one of the sweetest memories I have of my mother.

I'm curious. Tell us more about this cleaning lady. I wonder if she's down on her luck and maybe does her own laundry at your mom's house? Any health issues for what she'd be taking Tylenol, aspirin, etc for? If it's not prescription stuff I wouldn't even worry about it.

I remember my grandmother having a few cleaning ladies that would come once a week just to help out. There were some that were lazy, but never dishonest. She had a really sweet and cute Hispanic lady that was awesome. They even became really good friends. They'd always have meals together and would go out to eat together. She became part of the family and we always considered her family. She eventually moved on to bigger and better things, but they remained good friends.

Sounds like your mom has a heart of gold

I would fire her immediately, and tell her why. I would also mention concealed security cameras around the house (whether they exist or not) in case she thinks about coming back for nefarious reasons.

I've had Employees that were caught stealing. If you give them a chance to make one last haul on the way out the door, they usually will.

I would tell her you have a dilemma. Tell her she is fired, and your dilemma is whether or not you are going to show the hidden camera videos to the police. Tell her the choice is hers, reimburse you for the items she stole, or go to jail. Let her decide the reimbursement amount. You know it's a bluff but she does not. You might get a little recovery, but either way she is gone. Few things are worse than a thief.

Had the same thing happen years ago. Only it was small change and canned goods that were going out the door. When confronted about it she walked out the door never to be seen again. Didn't even ask for pay that was due her. Weeks later I found a huge stash of canned goods hidden away in an unused closet. It was a strange situation for sure.

let her go, tell you know what she was doing and do not pay any money owed. i wouldnt wait till after Tday. she deserves no courtesy.

Same thing happened with my grandma but it was family stealing her blind.

I would: Fire her now, no reasoning..no explanations.

In the future you need to get references, actually talk to the references in person if possible.

I also suggest you turn a cabinet or a closet into a 'safe'. Hasp lock and key that only you and your mother have. Place valuables in there that you dont want stolen.

Document what is missing. Notify Police, and have her arrested before she preys on another elderly person. The Police may have other reports on her. They may even want to have her stay a little longer.
