What would cause a typewriter tick in the 6.7?

The Ford 6.7 has an issue where after an oil change a typewriter ticking sound can be heard (TSB 10-11-2). After some time on the oil it usually goes away. Sometimes the sound never even presents itself. They claim it is not an issue and this post is not meant to dispute or confirm that.

So I had been using LE #8854 5w-40 and I never heard the sound. Today I switched to Delo 5w-40 and the sound was there. It is not something you can miss so I am sure it was not there with the LE.

My question is what is it about the chemistry of the Delo that would cause the ticking? I don't think it is viscosity because there are reports of 10w-30 oils not ticking and 15w-40 oils that are (and vice versa).

So I know most answers would be speculation but I thought I would throw the question out there anyway. BTW I have no idea what component is causing the ticking word is that its the fuel pump.

It is likely just a coincidence that you noticed the sound after the lube change.

The GM Duramax has a similar issue, also known as the "typewriter" tick. I've had it come and go on my truck for 7 years, and it didn't seem to be any more or less prevelant with any particular brand or grade. It comes and goes as it pleases, and has not harmed a thing. I don't know if GM ever really ascertained it's origin, but they have stated it causes no harm. I cannot hear it in the cab; only audible if I'm standing on the driver's side near the front fender well. Since I cannot hear it over the whistle of the turbo, I really pay it no mind.

I suspect the issue is similar in the 6.7L Ford.

Oh believe me I would have noticed this sound before, it is very loud and apparent.

I do agree it may be hit or miss as to when the sound presents itself and may very well have nothing to do with the oil brand/viscosity. It just seems very strange that it chose to manifest itself on my particular 6.7 after I changed oil brands.
