Another thread got me thinking about dream garages and what cars would be in mine. While I appreciate the exotics and rare foreign collectibles I go back to the cars that impressed me in my youth back in Detroit, were "unobtainium" to me at the time, and are cars I could reasonably maintain myself.
Here's my list, share yours!!!
70 Ford Boss 302 Mustang, 69 Camaro Z28, 70 Barracuda 340 convertible, 70 AMX , 65 Vette convertible with 327 365HP (a plain jane 327 300HP coupe as an option) and naturally all would have 4 speed manuals. My final one actually impressed me the most, a 68 Firebird Sprint with a 250 ci sohc I6 (230HP) with a hurst 3 spd. That car sounded amazing and actually went like stink. I had the opportunity to "ride" in most of these (except the z28.....had to settle for a 69 ss 350 and the Boss 302 but did ride in a 70 Mach I w/ 351 cleveland). I did get to drive the Vette convert. and Firebird. (PS, I have a weak spot for high revving small blocks).

A restored/restomodded 1970 Chevelle SS
A wonderfully gaudy late-70's Z28
An early 70's C3 Corvette
A beautifully painted early 70's Chevy custom van
A late 70's Toyota or Datsun minitruck
A crappy yet fun baja bug or Meyers Manx
A Caterham 7 kit car

I'd have to go with my old man's dream car, '70 Chevelle SS with a 396 and Turbo-Hydramatic. Maroon or blue with white racing stripes.

Any tri five Chevy Nomad, 64 GTO 389 tri power 4 speed, my old high school car a 66 Chevelle SS 396 L34 4 speed Marina blue, 64-67 Sunbeam Tiger, 67 Camaro Z28 DZ 302, 70 Chevelle LS6 454, 70 AMC Trans Am Javelin, 1967 Corvette hardtop with the 427 L88 ( only 20 ever built ), the 63/64 Chrysler turbine car ( Leno has one ) early Datsun 240Z, I could go on and on.

My first car (bought used in 1974 when I was 16) was a green 1968 Firebird with that SOHC 250 six and an A/T. That engine wasn’t GMs best for sure but the fact that I bought it from a lady (who probably wasn’t great with oil changes and other maintenance) may have been a factor.
