what weight oil to use

what is the oe recommended oil wieght for a l99 engine from a 2011 camaro ss. i have a l99 engine that iam getting rid of the dod and vvt . iam putting in a lingerfelter cam and replacing the l99 oil pan with a corvette pan due to clearance. i am also going to use a corvette c6 oil cooler which will add a little more oil capacity.. the reason i have replaced the l99 pan is the clearance i need since iam using a c6 corvette cradle in my 1970 pontiac on the front . anyone here with a 2011 camaro ss what oil do you use??

Isn't chevy using a dexos approved 5w30 in all their vehicles?

A fully synthetic 5W30 should work well for you, especially with the Vette oil pan and the oil cooler which should help control temps.

You need to look for a DEXOS1 Approved Oil for that engine, since your car is still under warranty!
All major brands have their 5w30 Dexos1 Approved now...

Seeing how he replaced the cam, oil pan, etc and is using the engine in a 70 pontiac, I would conclude that worring about voiding a warranty is not an issue. That being said, it did likely call for dexos 5w30, but any full synthetic 5w30 would be acceptable. I've worked in the oil distribution business, and from what I've been told (and I don't know the specifics) is that dexos1 5w30 has only one additive that makes it "special" and is traceable so they can tell if you used dexos or not if theres a warranty claim. Supposedly there are oil companies that say since their synthetic is just as good and meets all the specs but they are not paying for the dexos license, they will honor GM's warranty if GM did not. I believe Kendall was one of those, not sure if it applied to all COP products or not. I haven't looked into it myself, but got the info from a pretty reliable source. Anyway, long story short, any quality full synthetic 5w30 would be a good choice.
