What was your first oil change ever?

I used to put the spout in the cans with my dad watching over and also pour them in, mid 70s when we lived in CA, I was about 5 or 6. 70 Chevelle Concours station wagon with 350 2bbl. Dad always used Quaker State 10w40 at that time.

Obviously I was not strong enough at the time to remove the bolt or the filter...

I think the first changes I did on my own were on our Craftsman mower. Straight 30wt and a Tecumseh motor. We got it when I was 12, always had a push mower before that! I hated mowing the yard with that push mower, even though I was a big kid and could push it, it was very hard work. lol.

First auto OC ever was draining the factory fill on my dad's new 1986 Chevy pickup with the new Vortec V-6. I don't remember the oil or filter, but I do remember that it took two hours of fighting the filter to get the thing off. I decided my dad knew something I didn't because it sure never took him three hours to change oil.

In hindsight, I think he knew what he was getting out of by having his teenager have a "learning experience".

When I was 15 I "procured" an old Wisconsin single cylinder cement mixer engine. I bought some straight 30 weight non-detergent (the only other choice was detergent) and filled it up. The normal sump level was just at the filler opening. I then decided to start it up with the plug still removed, not too smart as it squirted a couple of quarts all over me.

When I was 14 here in Venezuela. I changed the oil in my granfather's U.S spec 1977 Chevy C10 with a 350. The truck had about 1600000 miles on the original drivetrain. Yes over a million and a half.

Quaker State green bottle; 5W-30 and a FRAM PH3614.

This was before I realized a) the store branded cheap oil was more then adequate for my OCI, b) I could easily bump my OCI up to 5000 miles anyhow, c) that I could buy Quaker State filters which are rebranded Pennzoil filters of great quality for low cost, and d) that an oversize filter is absolutely free an upgrade.

Now its Formula Shell rebranded store-brand 5W-30 with a Quaker State QS3600. Works great

Mine was Exxon Super Flo. I then went to Castrol GTX and used that forever it seemed.

Back in 1996. Dad had a 1986 Chevy C-10 The one with the blue paint that peeled off in less than two years. Threw in I think 5qts of PYB SAE 30 since it was summer. 10W30 was for the cooler months.

The first one I remember doing was on my Dad's 69 VW Beetle, which I drove to high school. It had no "filter", and was an air cooled engine, but I recall refilling it with cans of Quaker State SAE 30. I think that was actually what it was spec'd for but it's been too long, but I do recall how hard that poor thing was to crank in the South Dakota winters! But it usually started.

88 Nissan Pathfinder. Roughly 20 years ago. I used Castrol GTX and a OCOD. Those were the days before BITOG and I grew an unhealthy obsession with changing my oil

My first oil change was as an employee at a Shell station across from the cemetery south Sidney,Ohio. It was 1958 and most customers asked for Golden Shell, a straight wt. non-detergent oil, usualy 30wt.It wasn't uncommon for requests to dump the oil, remove the filter(if it was lucky enough to have one),refill with 3 qts of the cheapest we had and a quart of kerosene. This was routinely done and then the subject vehicle was started and run(up on the rack) until the noise was audible to anyone close bye and then it was shut off, drained and filled with the oil of choiche-Golden Shell 30wt non-detergent.
Those days gone forever-but not forgotten.I am an old dog.

This one is awesome to read - my Dad's best friend bought a 1976 Gremlin brand-new in 1975, and kept it 'till he gave it to my dad in 1987....ASAIK, it never missed a beat, either!

My grandpa showed me how to change oil on a 1980 Olds Cutlas using his beloved QSGB. When I turned 16 I straddled the ditch in his yard and we changed my 1983 Mustang GT 5.0 with GTX 20W 50 and Fram PH8A filter.

I was 16 years old in 1978. Had a 55 Chevy 6 cylinder and used Gulfpride Multi-G 10w40. It didn't have a filter, so I changed it about every 1000 to 1500 miles.

Mine was a 1981 Formular Firebird. My first car. Maybe 1993 or so. I wanted synth oil but was not avail in 10w30. Not sure what I went with but do remember really liking the OCOD! I would put those on with a wrench. Sure were hard to get off!
