What was your first oil change ever?

Mom's '97 Dodge Dakota when I was 11, had the 3.9l V6. Used Castrol GTX and a Fram OCOD. Don't use those OCODs anymore

Good thing my dad noticed all 12 empty oil bottles sitting in the recycle bin and corrected the oil level. I sure was dumb!

Haha!!! That's a great story! Why on earth would dude at the shop sell you a whole case of oil and not two filters?!?! My first car was a '96 w the 4.6. First time I changed the oil in it I dropped the filter back onto the engine undertray... took me forever to get that stupid thing out with my oily hands and uh... "budding" ... mechanical skills!!

Probably assisted my brother change the oil on our 1964 Ford Custom, like a Galaxie 500 but stripped. It had two options, an AM radio and a 289 V-8. No PS or power brakes, had three on the tree.

Probably used Trop Arctic, since dad bought it by the case for about 20 cents a quart.

I would say I was around 10 when my grandpa taught me how to change the oil on his 600 Ford tractor. Used pennzoil 10w40

OMG!!!

Mine (in a car) was Canadian Tire Motomaster Synthetic (back then, made by Exxon-Mobil) in the same car!!!!

Probably 1972. Mom's 68 Plymouth Satellite. Probably Quaker State Deluxe. Shortly after, I bought a 65 Chevelle. I used Valvoline in my car. It had "the old style" filter, instead of one of those fancy screw on filters!

My first car is a 1999 Buick Century. My first oil change was Valvoline Max Life and a Bosch oil filter. Right now I have normal oil in it but it seams to be leaking so I might switch back to high mileage oil.

I don't know as I worked in a station in the last 2 years of high school, 51-53. They were a Sinclair dealer but had several brands of oil as they also was a Ford dealer and they tried to keep the customers happy with what they wanted. Not like now days.

My father showed me how on his 1968 Plymouth Valiant 318 2bbl. I think Castrol was the oil and I know the filter was a Fram. I remember the orange can. This was his secondary car that I was going to drive when I turned 16. He used that ARCO graphite oil in his '82 Mazda GLC, and loved that stuff! This would have been sometime in 1983.

My first car: 1989 Toyota Camry 2.0. I think it took 4.5 quarts of 10w-40, and I used Kendall conventional that I bought from Murray's. I also used an OCOD

like I did for many of my early oil changes, since my dad used them as well. I think the Fram filter/Kendall oil was a frequent special at Murray's back in '05/'06, since I also used that combo on my Escort Zx2 which I owned shortly thereafter. Except the 5w-30 Kendall I used in the Zx2 only came in the syn-blend.

Probably the late 60s. Quaker state in an old Impala convertable. With the top down you could fit 8 people in the car. With that load, the wheels would flex enough going around corners to pop off the hubcaps. Oil was probably a straight weight, 30 summer, 20 winter. All as my dad did.

1968, I was 15. A family friend helped me change the oil/showed me what to do in my 65 Mustang. I used QS super blend and some generic filter. The family friend didn't notice that the gasket wasn't attached to the filter and it made a terrible mess. His wife probably never forgave him. I remember it well because he took the time to teach me. He was a friend of my dad who had died a little over a year before.

My first oil change was in 1968 at 14 years old on a 65 chevy impala station wagon with a reusable toilet paper oil filter mounted high up in the engine compartment so you could get to it easily. I don't remember the oil used.

I assisted Dad multiple times in the late 70's and early 80's on various GM products. The first oil change i did 100% on my own was in my 1982 Honda Accord (around 1987). I used Pennzoil 10w40 and a Fram Filter.

It wasn't until around 1988 when i bought my new VW Golf that i began changing the oil myself all the time. For the Golf and later for my 1989 Jetta, both got nothing but Valvoline AllClimate 20w50 and Mann Filters.

20w50 was what the owners manual called for, from 14*F and up. There were a few times when i cranked it below 14*F but it always cranked right up. I kept the Jetta the longest and sold it in 2000 with 225,000 miles on it.

1964 on a 1964 Austin Healey Mk3 Sprite. I used 10W-40 oil for most of that car's life...."life" on BMC cars of that era was about 55,000 miles.

There is a GOOD reason that British cars just about disappeared!

1970 Ford Maverick.......5 quarts Gulf Multi-G 10w-40.........don't remember the filter
............... In 1970 the oil change probably cost less than a Starbucks coffee today.

Before I could drive, I would help dad change the oil in a 1985 Nissan Maxima and 1987 Hyundai Excel.
Castrol 10w30 or 10w40 and an OCOD for the Nissan Maxima
Castrol 20w50 and an OCOD in the Hyundai Excel.

My first car was a hand me down 1995 Honda Accord. I used 10w30 Castrol and an OCOD.

I never knew how bad the Fram filters were until about 2002 or 2003.
