Got a brand new GBU ( Garbage Bin Unit ) 2 wheel model from my city and on 1st pickup the garbage truck backed-up in a snowbank the rubber tire slid off the plastic rim.

Before crying like baby to my city I was just going to fix it myself. No amount of stomping / pushing / prying is getting the wheel back on.

I sprayed everything with silicone spray thinking it would just slide on but it made everything worse , ie more sliding off.

I then tried heating the rubber thinking it would made it more pliable.

I then tried with a few clamps and pry bars, almost made it on but the plastic rim is at risk of breaking

What's the magic that I am missing, how do they get these wheels on at the factory ? A 4 pin machine that stretches the rubber wheel appart ?

And here I thought I took things to the extreme. You have won that prize for boiling a garbage bin wheel/tire on the stovetop. Good effort, but call the city for a replacement.

No good deed goes unpunished, reach out to your city and get the bin replaced.
I went back to pry bar and clamps and just pushed harder.

Yes the rim cracked a bit I will put some epoxy on that and place 4 screws in from the back side just to make sure it does not slide off again.

I probably will have saved my city hundred of tax dollars for my self repair. The last time I had my bin replace it took a ton of call's follow up's email etc.

You shoulda used sew-up glue, if for no other reason than to say you did it :D
