I have a well worn Chevy 327 in my car right now, and it will be getting replaced with a fresh SBC. I have 6 qts of Valvoline VR1 20w50 conventional, and 6 qts of 20W50 VRI synthetic that I've not used up in the 327. The worn motor liked 20W-50, as it kept oil pressure up at low speeds (WORN engine).

I'd prefer to stay with a 10w30 on the new engine, as all bearing clearances are perfect. Any ideas on what to do with this stockpiled oil? If I were to mix it 3:2 with a 10w30 VR1 / VR1 synth, would I end up somewhere around a 15w40, or would this be a bad idea?

I'd mix it in as 1 qt 20w-50 to 4 qts 10w30 if that's your plans, or just use it for lawn mowers etc.
Result of 1:4 mix would likely be a thick 10w30

You could donate it to me

We don't yet know if the new engine burns oil.

I'd hold onto that 20w50 and top off any that was burnt with it. But start it on 10w30.

Put it in a lawnmower or blend it 50/50 with a 20-weight oil in the summer heat. Do you have any other older vehicles to put it in?

I used to use that oil in my Harley. I'd mix it in a quart at a time into the new engine. A 327 will run good on a thick 30wt.

It's too heavy for those blends to work.
Go to your local Toyota dealer with a couple of empty 5qt oil jugs and negotiate a deal on some bulk TGMO 0W-20.
Then mix two parts TGMO with one part 20W-50 to produce a mid-grade high VI 5w30. Better than most any 5w30 you can buy off the shelf.

if it were me, I'd mix either:

3 parts Maxlife 0w-20 to 1 part VR1 for a winter middle of the road 30 weight (10.5/63)

or

2 parts Maxlife 0w-20 to 1 part VR1 for summer heavier 30 weight (11.3/69)

both still maintain decent VI in the 150-160 range, slight boost to zinc levels (if that is desirable to you), and addpack compatibilty has a greater likelyhood of a similar design thereby not affecting performance in a negative manner by staying with the same manufacturer.
