Would probably benefit from a new O2 sensor after 20 years. If it has EGR (I don't know if Federal trucks had it), the valve could probably stand, minimum, a new vacuum hose & a good cleaning.

I have a 92 chevy with 4.3. It has 270000 miles and I have replaced.,water pump, radiator, clutch, plugs and plug wires along with distributor cap. Also put on a fuel pump. This has been over the last 15 years and never left me stranded, these were problems i notice with plenty of time to repair before a complete failier. It currently uses one quart of oil for every 2000-3000 miles. Truck was not taken care of very well in my younger days, but it amazes me how well the engine runs considering. A very good engine with decient low end torque for what it is. This truck has sat for over two years at a time before and NEVER FAILED to start.

and the water pump. Don't let the coolant get old in this engine.

I ended up buying an oil pressure switch on rock auto since mine was acting up. That's an awesome website cheap and very easy to use. I paid 12 instead of 24.99. What years had the intake gasket issues?

Intake Manifold Gasket, and in general, look for oil getting into the coolant and vice-versa.

Might possibly develop some oil leaks....

Over the 250,000 mile run on the 91 S-10..

Distributor cap/rotor...ate them up quick
Water pump
3 or 4 Radiators...thank you lifetime warranty
2 heater cores
Fuel pump/sender
2 alternators (original one started on fire!)
Idler pulley
U joints on the 2 piece drive shaft (never fully got rid of the vibration issue)
EGR valve
I did have the issue with the intake manifold gasket. Don't know how it got fixed as a friend of my Dad's fixed it for cheap.

RIP old friend....

Well I cleaned the front of my engine today because the thermostat housing was leaking and and had been for awhile I suppose and caused build up. I noticed there was some black rtv sealant pertruding from the intake. Doesn't look like a factory job . I did watch closely and it doesn't leak but he never told me he did it and when I check his records at orielly he never bought one. From what I gathered from him he basically shops at oriellys exclusively. Maybe it was done before he bought it? He did replace valve seals but he wouldn't need to take intake off I don't think. Hmmm it got me thinking. I notices it the very center of the very front of the intake there was a hole looks like a bolt could go there I'm not sure if its through didn't look real closely does anyone know what I'm talking about

My rear main seal is leaking. I hear it is quite the job to change it, so for now it is going to drip. I had the intake manifold gasket replaced, and also the water pump. I replaced the fuel pump a few years ago, another "known issue". I hear about every V engine out of GM since the mid '90s had intake manifold issues. Not sure, but I know many people that replaced them. Anything from the V8s down through the V6's.
