2020 Chevy Silverado 3500HD DRW, very loud rattle sound coming right from the alternator overrun clutch/pulley. I can find the clutch/pulley (Rockauto sells them) but is this a swap that can be done with the alternator in the truck, or does it require removal?

Tried GM/GMC specific forums for this issue, no luck, everyone just replaces the entire alternator because they can't find the pulley locally, or perhaps replacing the pulley on an existing alternator is more of a headache. Looking for advise which is the wiser option.

IDK about that truck but I’ve done it before - you need a few inches of access off the nose of the pulley - peal the cap off the pulley to expose the armature and nut. Insert alternator pulley fitting and a wrench - one to hold it still and the other to unthread it, twist. In the 3.8L grand caravan I did it off-motor, but I think with decent access you could do it in place.
