I think maybe I see why you have limited filters available. It is because your vehicle uses an odd thread size( 1-12 ). "Most" SAE thread filters are 3/4-16. There are a lot of variations in metric size filters but 3/4-16 has been the standard for US SAE filters for a long time. Your filter uses a very large 1" hole with a very coarse 12 SAE thread.

The rest of the filter spec's are pretty average so I think where you run into your problem is that odd 1-12 thread.

Just a guess.

Isnt Motorcraft a purolater pure one in a premium plus can with a different paint job?
Hells ya, i'd just buy a case of 'em then.

Best bang for the buck IMHO.

I use the FL1A on my Bronco.
I have similar problem with my 4.0 Cherokee though.
Cant find FL842 or FL300's locally.

So i use Mopar M9-090. Which is supposedly same thing w black paint (???)
And about $2 more money......

I'd say it's more of a Purolator Classic in a Motorcraft can. Some of them have a silicon anti-drainback valve however, like the FL-820S and the FL-400S.
