Hi,

Too many different opinions , advertisements ect.. I just don't know what to buy.

I bougth a brand new civic and I am about to do my first oil change. I am looking to run syntethic since I want to keep this car until the wheels fall off. ( I bougth it , no lease here).

I live in northern canada where the winter are really rough so synthetic is a good choice I think. I will run the factory oil filter since I heard its a good one.

I will also go by the oil monitoring feature once I get synthetic since I think 10 000+ kms are alot for conventional oil OCI.

So what oil would be best for me to use , it has to be readily available in stores.

Thank you for your time , you guys must be tired of answering those kind of posts .

Do you happen to know which oil filter Honda uses for that '07 Civic? As long as it's not the Honeywell filter, it should be of good quality and I'd recommend them. As for readily available synthetic oils, I'd try Pennzoil Platinum.

I also have a 2007 Civic. Mine is the LX model. I switched to Amsoil 0W-20 at 1,500 miles and have absolutely no regrets. I only drive the car about 6K miles per year, so I am looking at yearly oil changes. I highly recommend Amsoil products. They cost a little more, but are top notch. I also use an Amsoil oil filter. Most Honda vehicles will use the Amsoil EAO13 oil filter.

If you are looking for a less expensive option, a lot of folks like Pennzoil Platinum on this board. I have had some good UOA's using Mobil 1 on my wife's 2006 Pilot, so that is a good option as well. Mobil 1 is fairly expensive though. Wix and K&N make quality oil filters and either would work fine in your Civic.

Are you nearing 10,000 KM's on your Civic? I highly recommend draining the ATF every other engine oil change. I opted to go with Amsoil ATF. Honda transmissions are hard on the ATF, so whether or not you choose to use Z1 or Amsoil I would drain the ATF every 20,000 KM's.

FYI: I have had good results using Lucas UCL fuel treatment. It has given me a slight bump in fuel efficiency and the car idles much smoother.

Good Luck in whatever you decide!

I would really like to use amsoil products but this is out of the question since I have to order them trough internet and shipping gets quite costy ( Altough I will order some amsoil mtf to cure (hope so ) the civic harsh low rpm shifting) . I am a college student so I can't afford the extra cost.

So its pennzoil plat - 2 vs valvoline synpower-1

Guess its going to be pennzoil but keep suggesting !

Thanks !

According to some other members in Canada, Pennzoil Platinum's 4.7L jugs are on sale for $18.47 at Wal-Mart. http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/s...ge=0#Post994846

On a college budget, that's a pretty dang good price

I know how it goes, I'm in college too. After I use up this Amsoil I splurged on, I'll probably go back to whatever's on sale. Gotta try to conserve my money a bit better

Supposedly, five quart jug prices are dropping in your nearest Walmart. Quaker State, Pennzoil and Castrol prices have come down. All are good oils.

The 5w-20 dino speced for your car should be good for winter. Do you get Havoline there? Do you see Esso XD-3 0w30 for sale anywhere? That's a good cheap synth. The only widely available 0w-20 I know of is Mobil 1.

I bought a 5-quart jug of M1 5w30 from Walmart for $19.96. M1 is only expensive if you don't live near a Walmart.

I am switching to Amsoil next OCI. Fleshwound, I think you're a great candidate for Amsoil! You say you are a poor college student (as am I) but you want to treat your car well and run it into the ground. I drive about 20,000mi per year and change my oil about four times. You will only change your oil once, so the extra cost of Amsoil is worth it! What's a $50 oil change if you only do it once a year?

I went from Honywell to Napa Gold. Happy to report seamless fit and so far no diff so far between Honywell and NG in terms of mileage which is huge sigh since I rarely go aftermarket. THE NG caught up to my previous mileage high using the Honywell so I got what I wanted plus better filter for long haul.
