What oil for 2 different lawnmowers?

They both will do just fine on either HD30 or 10w30.
I vote whatever you have, but think 10w30 would be ideal for both.

I use 5w40 Rotella in all my OPE and fun machines.
Kohler recommends 10w30 or 30W - just like others have recommended. super tech is fine. I also would not hesitate to use 15w40.

Usually what I use. Home Depot is selling Shell 10-30 for under $3. Good oil for a cheap price.

I'm gonna throw 10W-40 into the mix. Honda recommends it for their G200.

For my Snapper rear engine rider with 12.5 hp B&S I use a synthetic 5w30.
From B&S website:
"A synthetic oil SAE 5w30 is the best for very cold temperatures of -20 to as high as 120° F (-30 to 40° C) providing the best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption."

I use 10w30 PP in my 20HP B&S twin.
Synthetic 10w30 works well. I run 5w30 in my Briggs and 10w30 in my Honda. Both Mobil 1.
I operate Kohler as well as Briggs. When I researched oils, Rotella and Mystik JT-8 10w30 was highly recommended. The 18hp Kohler was acquired used and was told to keep an eye on the oil. I'm really happy with the JT-8 as the oil level stays full and it's a good buy. In your area hopefully O'Reilly's still carries it.

I don't think they have put a 10hp Briggs on a Snapper mower in 30 plus years. That engine is NOT a candidate for synthetic oil. HD30 is what I would run in the old Snapper for sure!
Other engine, if newer and in good shape would get the same HD30, Rotella/Delo 10W30, or any synthetic 10W30 if it were mine, considering your climate.

I would side with a HDEO CJ-4 10w30 as well. Mystik is good along with the other brands. Farm and home type stores, at least in my area, carry Mystik at very good pricing. CJ-4's generally have more robust add packs and meet API SM class as well. CJ-4 requires a >3.5 HTHS as well. My JD Z445 gets the same CJ-4 10w30 that my semi truck gets and my compact tractor gets.
