Traded my Jeep for newer truck. Got me 06 ranger 3.0 with 5speed and 4000 miles on it.. Was wondering what type of oil would be good in it for 10k miles ( or if it's doable at all). Currently I got it filled up with Mobil 1 5w-20 and coming up on 5k oil change. Should I go ahead and do UOA on it or wait till 7500 miles.? Most of the driving is short trips in town. Every other month I'll take it on 450mille trip.
Any input welcome.
Anton

Assuming you have a warranty, I would stay with recommended oil and intervals till warranty is over. At that time you could look at extended drains.

It's about 3 month now and I forgot all about the warranty though

It's my first truck with warranty on it.

Dont see why PP wouldnt get you 7500-10K miles. M1 for that matter would probably make it too. I also agree with tsmay.

So with this 5K oil change you will have 9000 on the truck or did you get it at 9K and put 5K on it and will have 14K??
-Some would say motor is still breaking in. 9000 miles on a 2006 is preety good, I had an 06 ford fusion and had just over 48K when I traded it in for my 08 Corolla

I to would like to run extended drains on something like pp on our new camry. Toyota recommends 5000 mile oci. So, I am just using gtx conventional till warranty is up. At that point I will start doing extended drains with pp. By then though there will be another group 3 or 4 that is the latest and greatest I am sure.

I am doing the same thing, 5K intervals because of the warranty but I am not all that worried about it. I have 12 quarts valvoline synpower I got bogof and 18 quarts of amsoil 0W20 that I am going to run as well. Will go at least 7500 miles on the synpower and a minimum of 10-12K on the amsoil.
-If you will be sticking with the 5K intervals as per the warranty or maybe even 6-7500K intervals if you do a lot of highway driving then conventional should serve you well.
