We have two vehicles. 04 Escape 3.0/auto (68k) and a 06 Ranger 2.3L/5spd (27K). I have been doing 7-8k 9-11 month intervals up to this point on both. Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 and Pureone filters, oil looks fairly good up till I change it. Drove alot more up to till now.

The Ranger is driven the most. My commute to work is 14 miles round trip. 1 mile city - 5 miles highway - 1 mile city. I work 7 out of 14 days. It's also driven if myself or the wife have to run errands. When the wife starts working part-time again she'll drive it but that will be a short commute also. Most likely will take trips to the farm also 2hr drive every 2 months. Probably no more than 4-5k a year the way I figure.

The Escape is only driven when we have to take the kid somewhere. Probably no more than 300-400 a month and most of those are highway. 20-30 miles at a times. Every 2-3 months will take a trip out of town, anywhere from 2hrs to 5hr drive. Probably no more than 4-5k a year on this one also.

I've thought about switching to 6 months intervals and 5w20 MC but it just seems like a waste. Yearly intervals with PP seems to long though. Opinions?

The Escape will handle the one year intervals with PP and a pure one filter. I have my wife's Tribute (same motor) running 6 month 7500 mile intervals with Amsoil XLF 5w20 which is also a Grp III oil. TBN is low but wear is normal.

I think Harley pretty much nailed it. A used oil analysis should give a good idea of what exactly is going on and give you proof positive that the PP is up to the task.

I think you can run 1 year/4-5k miles OCI no problem on the MC 5W-20. No need to drain it out at 6 months if you only have ~ 2k miles on it.

Just make sure the oil remains topped up if it needs it.
