hey all not sure how long this fram endurance quality issue with the leaky seal or whatever it is will go on for but what is the best filter to get at the moment? best as in best in filtering and quality etc

i know the leaky seal thing could be subjective and we will never know if it actually effects performance but i would rather be safe then sorry

m1 ep filter seems easy to find but idk if they updated the product in many years

my vehicle fits the 7317 fram filters or the WIX 57356XP or MOBIL M1-110A + all the other brands in the same size

or not to change the topic of the thread if anyone knows what build year or what line of high end fram product is exempt from this leaky seal thing i wouldn't mind buying that but i think some of them are hard to find

My current preference is any Premium Guard XL made filter. Carquest Premium at AAP and Microgard Select at ORiellys are easiest to find for me.

Fram 7317, you still have time to edit. I use ProSelect 27356 or Fram DL7317 for 5k kms.

Official Website dated 2024. Boss rated 99+ @ 25, One, 99%@20. So Boss is better than 25 microns at 99%.
Merry Christmas.

Not what the official Spec Sheet from M+H says. Purolator has conflicting info, and not even Ascent's efficiency testing showed it to be as good as Purolator claims on their website. The official M+H Spec Sheet references ISO 4548-12 and shows 99% >46 microns for the same PBL30001 filter that's referenced on Purolator's website. Spec Sheet also shows 50% at 22 microns.

I believe the issue with the Boss is that the filtration medium ‘pores’ are so uniform across the entire filter that below a certain diameter, everything goes through. Maybe the filtration medium has changed since the Ascend test. Build quality aside, I think the Purolator One changed frequently will catch more debris and be better for your engine. Extended OCI’s are bad. I do think the bypass filter design doesn’t allow the leaking that the Champ valve design allows.

I would use these but they're hard to find and expensive up here. I'm not sure where @apollo18 is located as is these are a good option for you.

PartSource has their OE+ Pro Series line of filters that are Premium Guards. Around $12 for a filter and they go on sale quite often for $10. Also the CarQuest Premium filters at CarQuest dealers have them too.

My opinion on the Boss is as long as the louvers are open it has great build quality. Efficiency seems to be in line with many Asian OEM’s, like Toyota for example. I wouldn’t consider it high efficiency by any means.

I don’t think the OE+ filters sold at CT and PartSource are made by PG though. I have an OE+ sitting here that I just compared with a Carquest Premium and they look completely different. The OE+ says made in the USA and the PG made filters are made in China or Vietnam. I believe that the OE+ filters are made by Champion so they could suffer with that sealing issue 🥺 They look and feel like a solid filter though, I hate to waste one by not using it but I also have a Fram Endurance sitting here that I also don’t feel confident enough to use. So they are display items in my place now 🤣

PartSource OE+ Pro Series are Premium Guards. At least I can confirm that for 5.7 Hemi and for a 2.5L Ford Escape they are definitely Premium Guards. They are only sold at PartSource and not at Canadian Tire.

The OE+ sold at Canadian Tire are Champ filters.
