What oil do VW's like? PAO or Ester?

Okay, how about another one......
Silkolene Pro S 5W-40? The stats look real good, but the price is very high!!!!! Is it worth it?

It doesn't carry any VW approvals. I would pick another oil from Fuchs Group.
VW 502 00: TITAN Supersyn SAE 5W-40, TITAN Supersyn SAE 5w30 or TITAN Supersyn SAE 0W-30
VW 504 00: TITAN GT1 Longlife III SAE 5w30

Don't leave out Pentosin Pentosynth 5w-40. German oil for that German car!

I think the reason is that in europe 30 weights that meet ACEA A3/B4 specs are many and varied. Our 30 weights are weak sauce by comparison. Our 40 weights do meet ACEA A3/B4 specs and thus are recommended.

The 2.0 FSI can use VW 503.00 only if the vehicle is equipped with the Euro emissions systems and the flexible service interval display/service feature. VW 502, VW 505.01 or VW 504 are all okay in the US version of the 2.0 FSI engine, while VW 503.00 is not suitable (or available).

Just because VW 504 oils are suitable for use in engines that require VW 502, VW 503.01, etc, it doesn't mean VW 502 is an inferior or even obsolete spec. VW 502 is a current spec in Europe (maybe not in Scandinavia?) and NA.

Your right but,
no new VAG product in Europe has this (502) as it's primary recommendation (haven't checked the models with the older 1.6 4 banger).

I didn't say 504 is better, in fact I wouldn't use anything but 502 in my own S6 2.2 TQ since 502 seems to include "thicker" oils than 504.

The primary recommendation for most gas engines in NA is VW 502 due to a different (non-optimized) emissions systems. VW 504 oils are more difficult to find than hen's teeth at this time and simply not required in the currently available engine configuration.

If I were driving an Audi or VW with the 2.0 FSI in Europe, I'd still go with a VW 502 oil and a regular service interval versus a VW 504 oil and flexible service interval. Down the road we will see how these new oils perform. And it's not like the older specs are not being updated, they are.

Down the road, VW may well have only two oils specs, and likely they will be VW 504 (gas) and VW 507 (diesel). That means one oil will fit all engines, because so far, all oils that meet one of those two specs, also meet the other spec. Whether or not that is an ideal solution to reducing the "confusing" number of VW oil specs is not for me to decide, but I surely have an opinion.
