What oil are vq37 owners using?

Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 or 5w30would be my choice in that engine.
Why esp specifically? Especially over the other variants like euro formula?

Edit: interesting some of the esp bottles also say euro formula. I have a black label euro formula up here too, got thrown off by the emissions system protection or whatever. But same question why esp over the others.

From reading some older posts, Nissan VQ engines(& owners) seemed to like heavier grade oils. I’ve had a couple of VQ’s and would agree but I suppose it isn’t necessary.

"Euro" means it has European approvals. VW 504 00 is a demanding approval and that oil has it.

Yea as soon as I saw green oil I was like ok idk about this. Who cares if it's green going in?

Interesting to know about motul. Used to see it at some dealerships like Subaru alot and was always curious
motul is the liquimoly of the subaru world. the owners are convinced it's the thing so dealers stock it. many of the independent euro shops around here stock liquimoly for the same reason. nothing to do what they think is better, they know it sells.

in motul's case they've really gotten in with the subaru brand, sponsoring factory race teams at various times. now the popular engine builders and many of the parts vendors sell motul kits.

for today's pricing their street oils are all fairly silly, I don't think x-cess or x-clean get you anything that you can't get from a sopus/mobil product at $5-6/qt. their gear oil is quite good and is my choice in my track toy.

fwiw, if I still had my Z, i'd be running Mobil 1 FS 0w40 without a second thought.

When you say mobil synthetic like the base mobil1 stuff at Walmart? Not the esp or extended performance or whatever other variant they got ?

A guy I knew has a full bolt-on, headers back full exhaust, tuned 2010 G37XSport sedan. Makes 310AWD hp. With the tune he shifts it at 8Krpm's instead of the factory 7600.

Every Friday night between June and September he's running it down the quarter mile drag strip about an hour away. Sometimes 10 passes a night. He's over 300lbs himself, car is full of suspension mods and bigger aftermarket wheels and huge meaty tires. It's certainly no lightweight lol.

It runs deadly consistent 13.0's @ 103-104 all night long. He's been doing this for years and has run LiquiMoly the entire time. With that said, Mobil 1's best stuff is proven to be better so that's all you'll need for your Q IMO...

Yeah and there's also people who track their car on Kirkland Signature, so these anecdotes don't carry a ton of weight. I'm sure he'd be doing just fine with M1 Euro FS 0W-40. @TiGeo did a poll once when he was at the track IIRC, and a handful of people were running Kirkland at the track...in VWs no less I believe. 🤯 🤣

He means Mobil 1 in general, more so their top tier products which are the euro variants.
No, I mean specifically the higher-tier mobil 1 products (which still fall into that $5-6/qt pricing at walmart). ESP, Euro FS. SOPUS equivalents would be Quaker State Euro 5w40, Pennzoil Euro L 5w30, LX 0w30, Euro 5w40. There are some minute differences but a VQ doesn't really ask for much. It's a mid-2000s, port-injected V6, it doesn't need fancy mid-SAPS stuff but it doesn't hurt either. Hence suggesting 0w40 FS.

You missed my point.
I think the Mobil 1 line, their best stuff, it better than Liquimoly...
Point being if a guy can beat his car for years down the track with a certain oil, then one proven to be more robust and better certified would probably offer better protection even though the chosen lube (albeit the way more expensive one) has held up just fine.
