What my neighbor told me about QS

So I was talking to my neighbor about his car. It was some kind of mid 80s Nissan that looked in excellent shape. I constanlty see this guy changing oil and always working on it. Basically, he told me that the only reason its still running today is because he has used nothing but Syntec at 2500 OCI. He asked me what I was running and told him I put in some Quaker State Ultimate Durability and he said, "You have to get that oil outta your car immediately, it's gonna sludge up like crazy!. You see, I'm not a mechanic but have worked on several people's cars throughout the years and as soon as I pop open that valve cover and see the sludge, I ask the owner what oil they're using and 99% of the time its quaker state." I just responded with an "ok, ill do it when i can."

But anwyways, I didn't feel like arguing with him especially since he changes out syn at 2500mi OCI's.

Hey, if you're 'daring' ask him for his used 2500-mile Syntec, and run it in your car for 3-5k! He probably has to pay to dispose of it, so offer to take it for free!

I don't know if that's the norm in Canada these days, but down here I've yet to see anywhere charge to take used oil. It's routine to take used oil to a parts store and dump it in their tank, at no expense and without regard to where you actually bought the oil originally.

I'd luv to beg for his used oil to be put back into service (specifically, my dad's 7th gen civic) and run it for another 5000kms!

Should of told him you'll stick to Costco Peanut Oil with the Jergen Lotion add pack. And you'll keep using the 1st OE oil filter as a dirty filter always filters better than a clean filter.

Walmart charges an environmental fee to dispose of oil, but the easy way to get around that (lots do) is to just leave the bottle outside their service bay doors after-hours.

Sometimes, they won't take the oil - once tried to dispose of some oil at a Walmart, and they said it was contaminated with gas, and couldn't take it. I asked how they knew that, and they said 'we can tell just by the look of it'.

It's actually not that easy to dispose of oil in Canada, from what I can see. LOTS of QL's up here, and i think they are working hard to stop DIY work where they can.

Strange, I've never had a problem. The local dump has a free recycle tank, as do many service stations. I think they make money on the stuff.

I was also kind of leery of Pennzoil and QS. Now those are my choices of oils. Just started using Quaker State Synthetic and really like it. Can't say anything about their conventional oils.

It's easy to get rid of used oil where I live, my garbage collection takes it for free from my curb every week. Local landfill takes it for free as well.

I live 3 miles from a Saftey Kleen refinery and they take it for free too. (they used to pay cash for it)

Such a waste of $$$....time....and resources.

As you said "You can't fix stupid"...if it does not want to be fixed. He might not have other things to do.

His vehicle would still be running if he a just gone to 5000 mile OCI's....at half the cost...and half the time.

Oil disposal in my area is a breeze. Most dealerships have a tank and get paid by oil recyclers for every litre they suck out of the tank so the dealer is happy to take it.
As an alternative, my city also has a recycling depot where all automotive fluids can be recycled at no cost.

I do love the rumours about all things automotive, but especially when it comes to oil. At the end of the day no one ever wants to admit they let their maintenance program slip on their car so its just easier to blame it on the oil or filter!!
