Car: Hyundai Tucson 2025 2.0 Turbo Diesel (with PDF) - per manual i should use ACEA C2/C3/C5 oil
- I plan to change the oil at 50 miles / 250 miles / 500 miles / 1000 miles / 3000 miles / every 3000 miles thereafter.
- I plan to use Amsoil 5w-40 European Synthetic oil at 3000 miles+
- I plan to use Mineral oil and change oil filter during break in at 50 / 250 / 500 / 1000 miles

Question:
- What Mineral oil should i use during said break in? I read that i don't need a special "break-in" oil as this is only useful for high performance cars which my car is not. Thus, i plan to just use an ordinary mineral oil. In this regard, what should i look for in said mineral oil? What viscosity?

  • Will using non-ACEA oil destroy my PDF if i only use it during break in?

You don’t need a special oil and you don’t need a mineral oil. Get a good name brand synthetic at Walmart such as Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 or that Amsoil you mentioned.

And you definitely do not need to change it according to that schedule you posted.
but isnt it that fully synthetic oil is bad during break in period?

No break in oil. Break-in oil hasn't been regularly used in the US for decades. Only hand build race motors get break in oils. Now if you want to change the oil early go ahead but no special break in oil. Essentially all new cars sold in the US are factory filled with synthetic or semi-synthetic and 99.99% do not perform a break-in oil change with mineral oil.

Your vehicle has DPF so go by Hyundai owners manual. That Shell Helix HX5 (API CH-4) is not compatible with your emissions system.

My owners manual says to use ACEA C2/C3/C5 which i plan to use on my 3000 miles change oil. What will happen if i use API CH-4 diesel oil during my 100/500/1000 miles change oil only? Do i need to use ACEA even on my 100/500/1000 mile change?

Special oil is not needed. Just use what you would normally use for an oil change. Use an oil that is compatible with what is described in your owners manual.

I do an oil change at 500 or 1000 miles on my new engines with synthetic oil. Is it necessary to do it in a car engine? Probably not. Is it beneficial? I feel better about it.

Theoretically new engines tend to consume some oil so you'd unnecessarily add more metallic ash to your DPF than if you were using an ACEA Cx oil. I can't quantify how much more but it would be more. Perhaps not enough to matter in the long run. Personally I would just change your factory fill some time before 1000 miles and then run ACEA C3 oil every 5k miles thereafter.

Congrats on the new car.
I would go ahead and use the Amsoil you plan to use from the get go, and skip the weird OCI you posted. Change it every 3k, and you will be in great shape.

I think it is great when someone is enthusiastic about vehicle maintenance.......tells alot about someone.

Just dont waste your money.

Use what your Manual tells you to use. You dont have an American Manufactured Diesel. Diesels are engines that require a more detailed knowledge base than Gas Engines, People think they are cheaper to operate than gas engines, they are not, and require a lot of care. So only use what the manual advises. It aint no Cummins!

We don’t even break in Volvo CE engines, 4L-16L engines , all diesel inline sixes, a Cummins most likely doesn’t need it either in reality.
