What might be trailing from this exhaust pipe?

A friend sent me these pics a short while ago and asked if I had any idea what might be trailing from this exhaust pipe. I'm clueless other than to think it may be some fiberglass from an aftermarket muffler. Are "glass packs" still being marketed or used?

I want to say that was more common in older / muscle cars (no cats and colder / “wetter” exhaust)… the muffler packing would get wet and freeze overnight, then if you floored it before fully warming up it could do damage. I partially ruptured a decent set of hemi mufflers once, this could have been a factor

Happens on alot of Fords. The Expedition rear resonators did this alot.

Muffler packing coming out...typically from a broken or rotten core.

Several people with 5th gen Rangers have had factory packing leave their stock mufflers. Why or how no one knows, but it happens.

This is what is inside a 5th gen Ranger muffler.

We put the MBRP system on this '19. I was actually impressed as far as build and fit. Doesn't sound the least bit obnoxious IMO. Does it actually improve performance? No idea, but probably not. I just appreciated the simpler, straightforward design.
