What makes Lucas so good?!?

I use Lucas 5th wheel lube and the 5th wheels look much better at the next service than they did when we used grease. It's the only Lucas product I use. I like MMO.

In order to expand beyond the trucker market, Lucas followed, successfully, STP's marketing formula from the 1960's. Racing sells oil and additives.

That and Castrol Motor oil. It must be all the marketing that they do on the NHRA, and other events that "rednecks" attend.

The answer to many an engine problem has appeared ot have been cured with Lucas i too know the mechanics that have cases of Castrol (And only Castrol, also STP) and Lucas "If that doesnt work put some Lucas in there"............ Mixed results, it did seal ONE car back to working. This experience has stayed with me.

I just can't see how all the folks who use Amsoil, Mobil-1,or any other "Top Ten" lube line up would have much need for this stuff.

Now that's not to say I will stop playing with the little Lucas gear demo display while waiting for the parts guy to bring my brake pads out !

Before I had any knowledge of lubes I dumped a bottle of Lucas PS Stopleak. The pump did not leak a single drop more and made zero noise for the three months I owned it. Whether another brand would have worked just as well, who knows. I bought it because the auto-parts-store guy said it was THE fix.

I see Lucas as snake oil and, now that I can afford to fix things properly, will never use another of their products again...maybe

Good. It's not just me doing that. Except I crank the heck outta' it then point at the bubbles and exclaim, "WOOHOO! Cavitation."

Umm... OK. But doesn't there have to be quality in order to do any bashing? That said, it's all marketing, and the herd that is currently watching is so uninformed, so unsure of themselves, that they realize, through marketing, they can have the life style of movie stars and rock gods. Yessir, adding just a drop of Lucas to their tranny, a drop of Rogaine on their forehead, and a Viagra (or Cialis if you want to wait until after dinner) mixed in their Smirnoff (which by the way had earned several prestigious awards: I know, I saw it) will enhance their lives, make them better than their neighbors, and will amaze their friends. Put a brand name out there often enough, and good press, or bad, as long as people are talking about it, it will sell.

Good one!!
Luke's little gear set is a great way to keep your fishing wrist in shape ! But the OptiMax is going to get Merc's gear oil. If I'm gonna pay too much for an oil - there has to be a reason.(I think that's how the warranty game works).
My four road/off road rides get Mobil-1 or equiv...

I think it's the fact that they make everything under the sun. I personally wouldn't use the petroleum oil stabilizer because all it seems to do is drastically thicken your oil. Still, there are many 18-wheeler drivers who pour two gallons of the stuff in with their oil at change time. I've used the Pure Synthetic Oil Stabilizer but never noticed any difference. I do have the heavy duty 80w90 gear oil in my pick-up right now.

yep, marketing company. Kind of like BOSE in the home electronics world, many people think its a good company because of all the commercials and magazine advertisements...but any true review gives them a failing grade

Pretty sure it's the racing advertising but Lucas is also very popular in the trucking industry. Personal best for the oil stabilizer in in the Jeep 4.0 inline 6 cylinder engine. The lifters tend to stick with age and I found that for the 6 quart pan use your favorite oil including 1 quart of oil stabilizer and 1 pint on Seafoam. Nothing else has worked for any of the Jeeps I have worked on. Use it all the time or the lifters will start ticking again. Also tends to raise oil pressure which helps out the typically anemic pump on this motor.

Some people must like it a lot. The Colts love their new Lucas Oil football stadium.

"On February 28, 2006, Indiana native Forrest Lucas announced that his company Lucas Oil had purchased the naming rights for $121 million over 20 years."

Word of mouth by truckers who have used it in the diesel engines. However I don't think their products are so good. Don't use 'em anymore b/c I found better performing ones.

Because people buy what's recommended and something they've seen before. When I started having a small transmission leak and went into autozone looking for some ATF to top off with I was immediately directed towards Lucas. I told the guy flat out that it's junk, I am dropping the pan tomorrow and re-applying ATF RTV and he looked at me and said "the lucas would be an easier fix".

A week ago I was talking to my girlfriends brother who owns a 1990 camaro and keeps it immaculate. I asked him what he used to wash it and he said "Gain Dish Soap". My jaw hit the floor and I told him to go get meguiers gold class or something car specific. After doing some research he couldn't believe he had been stripping his wax off time and time again.

Then when he came back from the store and showed me it I noticed in his bag that notorious white bottle and pulled it out... "Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer I use it for every oil change" *Face palm*
