do oil manufactures back up their claims on compatbilty?

Lets say I put a transmission oil that says its Z1 compatible. I use it and the a few miles down the road the transmission fails. A diagnosis is made and stated blame is the use of non factory transmission oil.

So what recourse is available?

One thing the hapless auto owner won't have in the "hypothetical" example above is a claim against Honda. He bet a $4,000.00+ transmission on a non-licensed fluid and he lost.

I would assume that the company has an insurance company to investigate and settle the claim. Naturally, whomever they use to underwrite the product is going to assure that it's truly a fluid issue. I'm sure there are plenty that try and blame a lame transmission on the fluid. So I'd expect a pretty thorough sphincter check.
