Graduated in '69. At the recent 40th re-union, Pam made us a CD songs from the era. About 6or 8 were great, the rest not so great, a couple were jus' plain lousy.

69 for me also. Started playing music professionally in 65 and still do as a weekend warrior. Still listening and playing Motown and Stax stuff, Meters, Marvin Gay, Cream, Laura Nyro (she and Carol King wrote a bunch of hits in 60s and 70s), Hendrix, Beatles, Dylan, etc. One of my fav's is still Al Kooper singing "More than you'll ever know" with Blood, Sweat, and Tears before he left. Also love to listen to "Down in Montery" as a summary of what was going on in the late 60s. Listen to Bloomfield and Kooper Super Sessions, Paul Butterfield, and other - gosh, the Beach Boys with "In My Room". Lots of great stuff was happening and music was changing from 65 on.

I started buying music in the late sixties, when a late night FM show started broadcasting "underground" music in San Antonio.

First albums were Iron Butterfly (Heavy, and InaGaddadeVida) and Cream - Fresh Cream. I think the third was Tommy James and the Shondells - Crimson and Clover.

Other music that was epic for me:

CSN - Almost cut my hair
Country Joe and the Fish - The Fish Song
Jefferson Airplane stuff mentioned by Pablo
Spirit - Got a Line on You, Fresh Garbage
Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth, Mr. Soul

That's the best song on that album IMO. If the lyrics weren't enough the guitar part is just a JAM. It reminds me of when I grew my hair out. "I could have said it was in my way / but I didn't and I wonder why / I feel like letting my freak flag fly / yes, I feel like I owe it to someone..."

Well given that there was no year zero, I suggest the 60s could be the 10 years from 61 - 70. Anyway, my 1970 input includes an entire album:

Jimi Hendrix, Band of Gypsys.

"Classical Gas," Mason Williams.

"Suspicion," Terry Stafford.

"She's Not There," The Zombies.

'King of the Road," Roger Miller.

I was going to say the best album was Grateful Dead's American Beauty, but that was 1970. Then I was going to say CSNY's Deja Vu but that was also 1970. Then, James Taylor's Sweet Baby James but guess what - 1970. Finally I thought Joe Cocker and Leon Russell's Mad Dogs and Englishmen was it. But no, it was also 1970. So I threw in the towel. '70 was a good year for music.

Best song - Canned Heat - Going Up The Country.

There`s some KILLER stuff that came out around 1970 that still had that 60s psychy and sunshine pop feel to it. A few fave lps of mine from 1970 are Tin Tin`s self titled lp (same guys who recorded as Steve and Stevie in Australia in 1968),Blues Magoos "Gulf Coast Bound" lp,The US release of the Shocking Blue lp,The Seeds "Love in a summer basket" (45 only),and I think West Ministr`s "Bright lights windy city" 45 came out in 1970 but sounds like 1966.

Oh yeah, the Blues Magoos. That is who I was trying to think of when I thought of the Electric Prunes. Anybody ever hear of a band called Atomic Rooster? Not sure if actual 60s, but man could they jam!

The Raspberries "Go All the Way"!!

I never knew how complete love could be
Till she kissed me and said
Baby, please, go all the way
It feels so right
Being with you here tonight
Please, go all the way
Just hold me close
Don't ever let me go

I couldn't say what I wanted to say
Till she whispered, I love you
So, please, go all the way
It feels so right
Being with you here tonight
Please, go all the way
Just hold me close
Don't ever let me go

[Instrumental Interlude]

Before her love
I was cruel and mean
I had a hole in the place
Where my heart should have been
But now I've changed
And it feels so strange
I come alive when she does
All those things to me
And she says

(Come on), come on
(Come on)
(Come on), come on
(Come on)
I need you (come on)
I love you (come on)
I need you (come on)
(Come on)

Please, go all the way
It feels so right
Being with you here tonight
Please, go all the way
Just hold me close
Don't ever let me go, oh, no

Who remembers it?
