What is wrong with Lucas gear oil?

Lucas shows the gear oil to be GL-5 as well as a few other specs.
Far too many people a) don't know what they're talking about and b) just repeat things they've read and accept it as fact.

Correct me if I'm wrong - if it meets the GL-5 spec (in this case), it's 100% suitable for applications that call for GL-5.

Im not talking about the Lucas goop. I'm not using that.

BTW I know of a Matco tool truck that had a 5.9 Cummins diesel in it that the owner put the goop in with every oil change

The engine ran well over 20000hrs with no rebuild. The Gruman body fell apart which parked the truck not engine failure,

Who likes Quake State oils but won't use a Lucas oil? Who remembers when QS used to sell oil with Slick 50 added ? Does anyone avoid QS over that?

The Lucas goop may have some usefulness. Like it's a great assembly lube for oil pumps. It makes a pump suck up oil quickly.

This oil drinker trooper we have may get the goop soon as my supply is dwindling. LoL
I’ve seen 5.9s go nearly 60k hours on basic Rimula. This is not an endorsement of Lucas goop.

That seems tautologically true, akin to asking if a blue sky is blue.

OK, I’m the guy with the old Lucas gear oil that may be going in my 4Runner. There was a time that I thought Lucas products were superior. That time is long past, but I think some of their products are fine (such as motor oils), just over-hyped and overpriced. I haven’t bought a Lucas product in a long time.

I have some 10w30 Lucas in a predator engine go kart. It has a few hours of full throttle and hasnt exploded yet.
I agree with everyone's general assessment though on the quality, I didnt seek it out, I bought it on clearance at AAP for pennies. 🤷‍♂️

Their gear oil and grease are fine.

The issue is the company makes so many products that are either overpriced, have misleading marketing, are completely useless, and in some cases, maybe even detrimental, that it’s a tough choice to support them by making a purchase of their other good products.

To each their own, and I’m sure other companies that make gear oil and grease have their own issues, but there are so many great options out there, why support Lucas?

That’s just my two cents - I don’t care either way. Just my personal reason why I would shop for something else. Of course, if they made the best product for a specific task, it was the best price, or the only thing available, then it is what it is and I’d use it.

I have not seen that in my area
It’s in stock at your local Apple Valley Walmart. Aisle K28

I could be off base but I recall a video of Lucas Gear Oil used in a differential with a clear cover and the oil foamed like crazy. I don't remember where i saw it.

Not a lucas fan but I got two tubes of their marine grease for $3 and change each on walmart clearance a few days ago. My rationale is that they're not making profit on it so I technically didn't support them.
I replaced wheel bearings on my boat trailer and they came packed with Red N Tacky. Used it for years. Other than dye and marketing - it’s already a good grease for that application …
