What is Wix's nominal micron rating?

I put the 57055 on my car because I became educated about the bypass rating which I had ignored before. With this car you can either go with excellent filtering and bypass rating that's HALF what's spec'd, or specified bypass and mediocre (as far as I know) filtering.

The 57055 only gives efficiency ratings as "Nominal: 15 microns". No percents or anything. Anyone have any idea what this means?

It is not really worth worrying about. We put too much thought into oil filters . The most important thing about an oil filter is that is doesn't fail and kill the motor.

Wix is a good filter, I wouldn't worry about it a bit. Worry more about keeping the air filter changed.

Looks like WIX is getting rid of the beta ratio (efficiency) info now on some of their filters.

"Nominal" efficiency can mean a number of things, but typically one of them is the efficiency at 50%. Many of the WIX filters use to have a beta ratio of 95% @ 20 microns, but if they don't show that now, who knows what it really is.

Their website sure doesn't give you much help...you're missing half the equation. I would agree that "nominal" ratings are typically lower efficiency at x micron as the test involves the degree a certain size contaminant particle is filtered as a percentage of weight...whereas an "absolute" rating usually means no contaminant larger than the rated size can pass through the filter at 98%-99% or whatever efficiency and that will usually be listed.

They don't list wattage or frequency response @ rated THD. Rather they say.... "how do they sound to YOU?"

Would you buy a car that didn't list HP/torque numbers? Or the number of gears in the trans? Whether it had a timing belt or chain?

Of course not.

I'm not a fan of wavy wix trash

It was either that or the Subaru OEM filter which probably had filtering efficiency of 1% at 1cm.

Is this a relatively new filter, or a really old one? The 51358 (kind of in between) still lists both the nominal efficiency and the whitewashed beta ratios.
