WHAT is with WalMart?

I had to visit 3 Wally's to get 1 5qt just of Pennzoil Platinum 5w30!!! No stock of Pennzoil Platinum I was not a happy camper. I have the illness too.

If it wasn't for Walmart keeping those kids in jobs they would be starving an dying. The machine works!

Walmart will only carry what sells good, if its not a high volume seller...........they won't carry it.

That goes for any retail company.

People buy what is available. If its not available how are they going to know people would buy if it were? Obviously, they have a problem or there is something we don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if they purposefully allowed manufacturer inventories to rise by refusing to sell certain brands so that they can get a steep discount.

Thank you for the detailed dimensions. I was using hyperbole to emphasize its size, but it's good to know it wasn't quite that big. But I think the 203K sq ft figure is accurate.

I'm in Silver Spring Maryland and the 2 Walmarts that I go to (Laurel and Columbia) stock the Pennzoil Platinum 5-20 but only in the quart bottles - not the 5 quart jug. This ups the unit price a bit but is still the best price I can find. PepBoys charges the same price for Platinum as Mobil 1, which is why I go to Walmart.

They have exacully I want at the closest Wal-Mart supercenter to me. I'm happy with TA 5w30(not just for the price,but it works well). I just don't buy oil filters there, I go to Advanced or O'Reilly's.

Usually Syntec 5w-20 is there as well as Pennzoil 5w20. They just stopped carrying Clean 5000 5w-20. What I like to see is Syntec Blend 5w-20 as well as DuraBlend 5w-20 and SynPower 5w-20, dunno why they don't have MC 5w-20 either??? I took the last 5q jug of PP and stashed it in a doghouse until my nephew can snag it w/ his 10% off card. I'll get some 5w-20 too....comes out to $3.50/q.

Believe it or not walmart can tell you in advance for any given day of the year as to what will be the biggest seller in any particular location. Pick 8/15/06 for example--They can look back at previous years sales for that day and see the item's or item that sold well for that day and supply the nessesary product to each store or area for sale. I worked at walmart for 2 years stocking shelves at night while I was getting my business up and running and was able to learn some of the ways Sam operated. Its not just walmart Im sure every big box store in existance must know what is going on to be able to survive. When you think about its kinda funny and kinda sad, that being the public can be so predictable and so alike in their purchasing that a company can tell you what will be the biggest seller of the day before it happens. and then again maybe they were just trying to get rid of old stock.

That's funny, I don't feel abandoned. My 2005 STi doesn't allow for the use of 5W-20 oils according to the oil chart in the service manual:

And a lot of people won't run 5W-20 even if the vehicle is speced for it. The BITOG threads on the 5W-20 controversy make that quite clear. Then there's the vehicles that can run more than one weight, one of which is 5W-20.

By the way Andy H, I have a brother and mother who live in Champlin, about 3 blocks north of the indoor hockey rink. My wife and I are back there visiting almost every year. I'm from Mpls. and she's from a farm in NW Minn.

Another weight I haven't seen is the 0w-20's.

Like anything large, either you love it or hate. Then there's the "I could care less crowd."

The "watch-dog" ways of business is for trending that allows for planning and set-up statagies for future events. It's something you and I do, only business may use this for stock and sales arrangements, etc. Money is the "bottom Line."

Creating jobs for the jobless is a great thing though I wonder how much people are willing to put-up with or ignore in terms of just how they go about getting their money to live by. But then one could also think if this situation of shortages is something akin to "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" Consider population figures - birth and death rates, average expected age, economic ventures and just what aspect does man have by way of physical intervention (production, consumption, maintenance, energy, etc.). It's like a cultural evolution in a way, where some want to buy a mass produced product in hopes of setting them apart from the next person - how crazy is that angle?

Not every manufacturer after 2003, just Ford,Honda and DaimlerChysler. My 2004 Toyota Matrix specs with SL 5w30.

The only place in my city with a better selection than the Supercenters is Autozone. And as a cheap oil, autozone has Coastal and wal-mart has supertech....I'll take supertech!

And even then it's not that big a deal. My parent's Mercury dealer uses 5w30 for the oil change on their Grand Marquis even though 5W-20 is recommended.

They took it in for a change because at the time, 5W-20 was hard to find on the store shelves. When my Dad saw them using 5w30 at the dealer's, he said he'd just change the oil himself next time since he had plenty of 5w30 at home.

I would guess allocation,If you were for example Mobil would you stock the higher or lower paying wholesalers/retailers. Remember this is just a guess in my part.
