The picture up above shows a HAMP filter with what looks like nitrile.

The Mazda engine may be more demanding than the Honda on its filter, so you cannot assume that just because Honda recommends a certain interval that it'd be safe on your Mazda.

The Honda factory and service filters all have silicone ADBVs. Not sure what's the deal with the HAMP filter.

Well I wouldnt run a filter past 10k anyway on any car. I'll probably continue to change the filter every 5000 miles with the oil but wouldnt get upset if the filter was stuck and I had to leave it on a little longer.

There you have it. That's almost a year in most people's usage ..and the mileage is just about the cross over threshold where you're doing much less insult to the filter (and the oil) on a per mile basis. Anyone doing more than 10k a year is (most likely) not doing lots of short trip driving, not in fuel enrichment state, not introducing moisture that isn't purged in the driving event ...etc..etc.

Edit time:

Just look at some of the mileages puked out by the GM Oil Life Monitor. The don't have a separate schedule for the oil filter. It can end up being 5,000 or 13,000 miles.
