What is the highest QUALITY Mobil 1 30 weight - Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30, 5w30, 5w30 Truck & Suv, 5w30 Extended, 10w30, 10w30 High mileage, or 10w30 Extended ? Which one has the most PAO ? Any one have analysis of each back to back ? I know Extended has 50% more "Super Syn" than regular & that Truck & Suv has a boosted level in between. What is "Super Syn"? I am in Sunny Florida where I rarely see any early morning temp below 40 during winter. It is going in a 4 cyl 16 valve [censored] engine with less than 20,000 miles. Thanks in advance for the replies.

EP has the highest percentage of PAO,hence the "15,000 mile" reference on the back of the bottle. you will see no such reference on the goup III based oils

oddly enough, their EP oil is not certified for the GM 4708 high heat spec (corvette)

Like most things on BITOG, questions have been asked and answered 100 different times, 100 different ways. Re-phrased, re-asked, re-answered. But its all good, and since the search engine leaves a lot to the imagination we really can't fault anyone.

PAO is not a good "high temp" base stock. In Fl you would want a group-V di-ester based oil. You got to look to the european oils for this. And you will get a full synthetic for your trouble - NO guessing or bologna as in the States. Brands such as Fuchs and Motul.

But didn't my little rant did have some value?

Any value? LOL, it's still all good IMO. I enjoy this site!

Ester based oil is major overkill, unless it's a high performance vehicle. A group III based oil will perform just fine.

Look in the mirror and say, "I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And dog-gone-it, people like me!"

No. It's fine. I enjoy repetative threads. Mainly b/c you never see the same answer twice.

I asked and got this answer by chevrofreak:

The 0w30 is about 70% PAO. I think their 5w30's and 10w30's are under 40%, but don't quote me on that. I think the 0w30 is better than any of their other 30 weight oil.

I would like to see if anybody else has anything to add. The "think" & "don't quote me" makes me uncomfortable with his answer.

Just giving you a hard time. It was better to start a seperate thread on it anyway. Too much going on in the other one!

I would guess the 0w30 that Mobil discontinued was probably their highest quality 30 weight. Seemed more like a cousin to their 0W-40. The Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 (currently selling) does not have as low a pour point. Was it labeled as a European Formula I can't remember?

If you pour German Castrol into an empty Mobil 1 bottle you will have Mobil 1's highest quality 30 weight.

Group III is fine for most, but if your going to get a syn, might as well be a long life with a top formulation, which is what the OP was looking for. For some unk reason he thinks PAO is the magic bullet that its not. In my past usage of such, grpV majority based oils perform MUCH better on the road than the group-IIIs by not a small margin.

But since you have not had a engine last past 45k in the last 10 years how are you coming up with this data?

Just wondering as most of us here consider 45k barely broken in...

Art:

I have not bothered to compare the pour points myself, but that said, there is a statement on the Mobil site to the effect that the "old" Mobil 1 0w30 is the same product that's now sold under the green cap. Here is the "blocked and copied" text from the Mobil web site:

They are the same formulations as the products marketed prior to 2008. As the importance of fuel economy has increased, we felt it was important to communicate to consumers which products in the Mobil 1 family offer the greatest potential for improved fuel economy. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy oils are engineered to deliver outstanding engine protection while improving fuel economy.

You can see the actual text for yourself at the Mobil website, click here.

Good catch ekpolk. I saw that too when I did a little research before I bought the two five quart jug limit on the rebate of $10 each. I also noticed a little different description on the Product Data Sheet of regular Mobil 1 10w30 that could lead one to believe it is their highest quality. "Mobil 1 10w30 is the most advanced performance synthetic engine oil & Mobil 1 10w30 is made with a patented proprietary blend of ultra high performance synthetic basestocks fortified with the most advanced additive system available today". The words "most and ultra" are the ones giving me a warm fuzzy feeling. The 0w-40 also use the same wording. 5w30 does not use most or ultra.
