What is the difference between these 2 filters?

Purolator #'s L14670 and L20081. They are identical on the outside, look the same all around but have different #'s.

I'm thinking that they are the same and they just put a different # on the can.
The reason I asked:
I was looking for a smaller filter to replace the long Ford ph8a style filter (no I dont use frams I jusy know the #'s)

The ph43 is shorter and crosses over to an L20081.
The ph16 is even shorter than the 43 and crosses over to the L14670.......But the 2 Purolators look the same.

Here are the specs of each of these filters according to the 2002 Purolator book:

L14670 is 3.65"x3.79" and has a 12-15psi bypass setting

L20081 is 3.76"x4.35" and has an 8-11 psi bypass setting

Both have the same thread size and both use an antidrainback valve.

How important is the difference in the bypass setting?

There is no way for us to know.

The engine designer has his choice of any filter that physically fits, and we presume he has good reasons for specifying the bypass valve setting, filter media characteristics, etc.

Some full flow filters are better than others. None of them clean oil. They are high volume filters. A high volume filter capable of cleaning oil would be huge. Actually what kind of full flow filter you use has nothing to do with how long your engine lasts. They serve one purpose; remove large engine damaging abrasives. Good engines have virtually no large engine damaging abrasives. They have lots of small engine wearing abrasives. If your oil gets dirty and needs to be changed and your oil filter is still clean -- what does that tell you.
