Was in the store today doing a return. Saw this behind the counter for the first time. What is happening at the return desk to warrant this? I thought about posting in the humor section but somehow I think this is serious stuff.

That looks like a small amount for a store the size of Walmart. I would bet blood hits their floor every couple of days and not from just goofy Walmart people stuff.

A WM employee at a store very near me in Wilmington was shot and killed by a shopper last month . The shopper was pilfering a $12 bottle of men's cologne. Employee confronted him and was shot dead. Very sad to see the 72 year old's 'in memorial' photo adorned with flowers on a stand near the front door, . The store was closed for almost two days.

I shop there frequently.

Pretty obvious to anyone who's had to deal with that stuff.

Company policy likely would be to have BBP (blood borne pathogen) clean up kits handy in a few areas. Often there are "trained" individuals who can use those kits for their intended purpose. Any large company has these protocols in place.

The kits are typically located in a few places around the facility. Some you can see (such as the photo at the customer service center; some you can't (like the employee-only areas, etc).

He said there is a training video he and store employees are required to watch on blood born pathogens and how to safely clean a blood spill.

I was taught at a young age to never come in contact with someone else's blood. Is it more complicated than that? I ask at the risk of sounding ignorant :)

Have to figure, anything & everything that someone is infected with is living in their blood. Our skin is a good barrier but I'm not sure what can pass through... as long as it's unbroken. Problem is, we all have minor abrasions and sometimes cuts we didn't know existed. And there is this thing known as "transference" where we might touch some other place on our body (lips, eyes, whatever) without thinking about it, and slowly migrate bits of stuff that we cannot see with our eyes.

Washing hands really good helps preventing spread of germs. Not getting anything onto any skin in the first place helps make that washing all the more effective.
