Yep, pushing it+altitude will do that. That is HOT !
It’s nice especially when towing in extreme conditions. Last summer I had to tow our 8k pound camper through the mountains. It was over 100 degrees and it was the first time I’d towed it that far. So I was already nervous. Keeping an eye on things made me feel a little better217 degrees is about the sweet spot. Hot enough to burn off any crud. Love that you have that information available, I think I would probably need a Hondata for that.
Why are you revving it so high? (4,000 RPM)Yep, pushing it+altitude will do that.
Why not?Why are you revving it so high? (4,000 RPM)
What is it accomplishing?Why not?
The F550 service truck I used to drive ran 208F on flat and 235F on hills. I sure didn't like those temps but I ASSume ford knows more than me.My 6.4 Diesel runs 238* Pulling heavy.
My 6.7 ran empty 210* and 240* with the stock oil pan. It now runs 196* empty and 228* loaded heavy. They (The haters..lol) said the pan wouldn't make a hill of a difference. Absolutely 100% False. It does in fact keep temps a few degrees cooler, however, it is much slower to warm the oil and the pan blocks the trans cooler so it's 5* warmer than before.

There's been a whole lot of 'my engine oil runs at' and 'my system of measurement can beat up your system of measurement' responses
on this thread but precious little technical information related to the OP's question.
@RDY4WAR and @930.engineering
gave some good answers and I would like to read more like that if at all possible.![]()
The original poster's question was what is the optimal oil temperature.
That's not the same question as what is the average temp of some particular vehicle !
Acceptable and optimal are two different things.
The OP didn't ask what is acceptable, but rather what is optimal !
Italian Tune-Up. 4000 RPM is just getting into the tune-up range. Why are you revving it so high? (4,000 RPM)
Speed.What is it accomplishing?
Was thinking that too. Love the granularity of the data. All my truck gives me is a bar. Which means literally nothing except when the bar gets too hot it flashes. To see that, I had to hook up a scangauge and tinker with all sorts of different settings until I got what I think is the actual oil temp data.217 degrees is about the sweet spot. Hot enough to burn off any crud. Love that you have that information available, I think I would probably need a Hondata for that.
653.7 degrees Rankine or 363.2 deg Kelvin is the way to go.Which by the way, never hits "optimal" on my Tacoma per consensus on this thread. I almost never see oil temps above 194F (72ºRé or 135°De for those who prefer not imperial units).
That's pretty cool. I thought the vettes ran hot cause they didn't have an oil coolermy 24 Vette runs at 180-190…..
