ON, Canada eh?
I'm looking for a durable somewhat reliable classic car from the Muscle Car era to have fun on the weekends...

Suggestions?

Since I have a 66 year old car in my life... the best advice I can give you is that the overall mechanical condition of the vehicle, including the frame; is going to be more important than any other factor, at this point.

Drive train, steering, braking, frame, suspension, and body panels.

I looked at so many old cars, that looked great.... but the frame and floors were rubbish. PASS.

What kind of fun are we talking about? Do you want to be able to do rolling burnouts or just something comfortable and reliable to cruise around in?

Reliable cruising that I can take to the office time to time and on weekends or when the Highlander is in the shop for maintenance sort of thing.

Yeah I would definately have this all thoroughly checked out before purchasing a vehicle this old. My dad is a retired mechanic and we have a lift so this would be no problem.

Got a size in mind? A 60's F-body or Mustang would be an easy choice, and have a ton of support, but they are small. Something like a Mercury Comet would also fit the bill, and is around the same size.

Going bigger? Well then you could look at the Charger, Chevelle, Olds 442...etc.

All of the big names have pretty decent aftermarket support, so as mrsilv04 stated, it's more about condition.

I was thinking of the F-Body / Mustang actually. Did a lot of work on these with my dad for friends that own them. But I would need to see if it fits my tall body and my back condition to be comfortable enough.

To be honest I love the 80's Chevy Caprice. Something about the comfort of driving a couch with all of it's clunkiness but it's not a muscle car or something that is cool.

With your height a bigger car like a Chevelle or Charger, as long as you didn't find it too unwieldily, may be more appropriate perhaps?

Even an Impala.

Olds 442 looks pretty spacious:

Charger would make my dad happy, but yeah I was considering Chevelle as well because there is a ton of parts available thanks to them being collectors.

Charger with a 440 would be pretty sweet, and they have a ton of aftermarket support too. They are a big car though.

The budget depends on what I'm getting but nothing insanely expensive...

Yes I have a garage I large garage to park it in.

I would opt for a little less mainstream like a Pontiac Beaumont or even a Chevy Nova SS 1968-74 with a 327ci, 350ci or 396ci. It will have all the power and most of the prestige of the mainstream muscle but not as high of premium outright on the car.

Yeah I could do an Olds 442, that seems decent if I can't fit into a Fox Body / Mustang. '69 Mustang is something I always wanted though...
