What interval for GM 9 speed?

I just bought a 2023 Chevy Blazer FWD w/ the 2.0L and 9T60 transmission. Currently, it is at 25k miles. Manual dictates transmission fluid drain and fill at 45k under severe conditions. Should I go with 45k miles, 30k miles, or somewhere in between. I intend on using ACDelco Dexron VI full synthetic.

I would start thinking right now about servicing it. It is often said between 30,000 and 50,000 miles for most automatic transmissions but only you know your driving habits and styles to determine should you do it earlier or should you wait. Also determine how long you plan on keeping the vehicle. If you plan on keeping any vehicle for any length of time makes me happy that you’re considering this and asking the questions. The fact that you asked the question shows your concern and you will most likely do the right thing. Well done! (y)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. My mom had a 2018 Terrain w/ the 9 speed and I serviced it at 100k for the first time. Fluid was dark and badly burnt. We traded it in 8k miles later and the transmission was not happy. I'll probably do every 30k, thanks!

I'd do it as soon you have a minute and see what the fluid looks like. That might determine how frequent you want to do it. Personally I wouldn't let it go more than 30k in between intervals. Good plan on using full synthetic.

Almost more important than the fluid is the pan and magnets, they compromise a major part of the filter system. Check & clean the magnets annually for the first three years to see how it's doing. You can probably switch to the mfg recommended "severe service" after that.

I'm pretty sure these are strictly drain and fill. I'm assuming it's closely related to the 9T in my brother's Equinox (if not the same thing). We did a drain and fill on that several months ago. I don't think GM has had a serviceable filter on their transaxles since the 4TXX versions. All the more reason to do more frequent services in my opinion.

Keep the pan and magnets clean and they will keep working.

I most definitely will do it at 30k. I’ve done a fluid drain and fill in a very similar GMC vehicle.

Sadly, no magnets on this drain plug. Even more sadly, filter is internal and the size of the fuel filter on my mower.

Correct. My 2018 GMC Terrain had the same. Pretty easy, all things considered. The only thing that was a pain for me was removing the fill cap.

I don't have a super clear memory of how difficult the fill cap was to remove, but I remember being grateful that the check plug wasn't as bad as I feared.

Check plug I believe is just behind the driver side tire. I checked it when I did a drain and fill on the Terrain, but probably won’t with the Blazer. It’s too much of a pain without a lift.

Yes that sounds right. I managed to do it with it on level ground somehow. Not convenient, but much more convenient than my Cavalier's check plug. If you get a fairly close measurement of what you get out then I think you're safe (I've done that on other transmissions). Since it was my brother's I wanted to be sure. I'm curious what the fluid looks like when you do it.

I'm hoping for a nice red with no burnt smell. Realistically, it will probably be black but smell fine. Coming out will be a Synthetic Blend ACDelco Dexron VI and going in will be a Full Synthetic ACDelco Dexron VI. Car will be around 30k miles since new at the time of transmission service.. Around then will be also be my first service since buying with 25.5k miles. I'm hoping to get 200k miles out of this car if I treat it better than I have any car before. I'll make a post about it if I remember to.
