I know that it is a degrease, spray on engine cleaner, supposedly completely non toxic, but what exactly is it?

It worked great on my BBQ grill and great on my fire ring.

It's the stuff used in tire shines, protectants, and dressings that makes everything shiny and pretty. Ever used Armor All? Then you've used PDMS.

OK.. I use Armor All at every oil change on CV boots, steering boots, tires, etc.

It did a fantastic job of removing carbon, soot, an smoke stains from the grill and the fire ring. Haven't tried to remove any grease with it.

Here's a wiki:

In the Wiki you linked it says it is used as a dry cleaning solution too! So I guess it will "degrease".

From wikipedia-
"PDMS is used as an environmentally-friendly dry cleaning solution under the licensed name GreenEarth Cleaning"
