So I'm driving down the highway in the Saturn and I notice the temperature gauge is sitting about a hair above quarter and then it goes up to about half and repeats over a course of a few miles. Thermostat is about a month old and just replaced the temp sensor. What do you guys think? All help is appreciated

It was sticking open. I bled the system a couple days ago no air ever came out. Si idk

Do you still have the old sensor and is it hard to replace? I'd throw the old one back in and make sure it isn't the sensor.

Did you test the stat with boiling water and an accurate thermometer?

If you believe it's air and you can't get it to burp for the life of you then a 1/8" hole drilled into its face will do the trick.

nope the issue was the insulation had a slice in it where someone testing before i bought it and i assume it hit the transmission and was not sending the correct signal. kinda odd really

that wasnt my saturn but a friends boyfriend it actually was the battery cables not getting good enough connection. i asked him several times are you sure and he said yes finally he took a wire brush and cleaned um good and there she goes.

But if the ground is bad, or the conductor resistance is too high, it will still cause issues.

The ECTS failsafe in this car is fan on, a check engine light and the gauge driven in the middle by the computer. If you have an intermittent connection it will check out on you unless it's acting up. If you hear the fan (AC off) with the temp needle in the middle, not stuck in traffic, there you go.

Hint, the "reset" button leads in an old computer have the same pinout connection as the ECTS one for temporary evaluation or permanent repair (with a glob of RTV.)
