This is a strange question. Last week, in front of a jobsite, I clipped a guy's mirror with my mirror. Very little damage, but broken is broken. When I talked to him, I gave him my info, and told him just to find out how much it would cost, and I'd write him a check. No use talking to my insurance company about it. I figured I was in for a $250-400 repair. Today, I was at the site, and the guy comes out and calls me over. He says, "You know, car dealers are some of the biggest crooks around."
I thought, here it comes. Then he says that he's getting ready to trade this car in anyway, so he's going to just leave it as is. I was pretty surprised. I asked him if he was sure, since there's no question that the outside shell of the mirror has a small break in it, and there's no question that I'm the guy who did it. He says no, it's OK.
What would you do? I'd like to get him a little token of my appreciation, but I don't know the guy, or anything about him really. He's an older retired guy, probably doesn't really need anything. I offered to go online and look for a mirror for him, and he said no thanks. I'm really happy that I'm not going to have to shell out the bucks, and I wouldn't mind leaving something nice on his doorstep.
