Bought a stranger lunch

My area is full of homeless people. On every corner asking for a handout. I have a rule I dont give cash as many just use it for drugs.

I don't normally eat at fast food places but for some reason I wanted KFC today.

Pulled up into the parking spot and I see a guy holding a sign "Hungry" on it. I asked him if he wanted chicken.

He said that would be great. So In we went. He did not appear to be on drugs or drunk.

He ordered 3 piece with fries and a drink. I got the same. He thanked me and left.

I don't have a problem buying food I guess.

I know we can't talk politics or religion etc here. I do find it interesting that I wanted KFC today out of all the other days I could have gone.

When I lived in Winnipeg a guy on the street asked for money to buy a bus ticket. I gave him a bus ticket. A friend coming behind me asked if I had seen the guy trying to sell a bus ticket.

Your approach worked better.

It really opened my eyes when I stumbled on some huge subreddits like r/vagabond with over a million subscribers that are full of accounts and advice for how to get handouts, panhandling, where to get free services, etc. One thread I saw was all about how to talk and what to say to scam or get sympathy from church people. Another was how to fake local residence to get food banks to give you food. Best tactics for "busking" and begging, etc. There's a huge sub culture out there.

Life's too short to spend it working and sober, I guess.

There is an unfortunate fellow at the end of the access road to my local Walmart. He is frequently there with a sign announcing his homelessness, usually accompanied by his (very healthy appearing) pit bull terrier. I usually purchase a few cans of dog food for his (obviously) domiciled dog and drop them off in his basket.

Saw a guy in Vegas holding a sign that said, "Not going to lie. I'm going to buy beer." I guess he gets credit for honesty.

I have purchased and dropped food off on the side of the road more than a few times in Worcester. It has always been appreciated. Life can go sideways on you sometimes leaving you wondered how the heck you got there. If it can happen to others, it can happen to me, and I hope someone would help me out if they could.

Good job, that is the way to do it. I do not mind giving food to someone who is clean (not drugged up or drunk) and in need. I do the same thing, i never give out cash. When I am eating with them I will offer to take them to a shelter in Houston but have never had someone take me up on that. I’ve been without food before so I know what it feels like.
