What GF-5 is all about

If you have a turbo, wouldn't you want to use a full synth anyway?
Better sludge protection? How about changing your oil, keeping it topped off and use a full synthetic?
Better emission system durability? Nothing is as durable as my catalytic converters that I take out of the attic once a year for my yearly emissions test.......hehehehe
Better fuel economy...SAE need to update J300 for even 'thinner' oils. 0w20 is thick as honey. I need a -30w1.5 !!!

GF5 bring improvements to the 'mass' consumer. 25 years of M1, Ams, RL..... and I still haven't seen the need to switch back to mineral oil. Well, maybe when GF8.5 comes out.

Yes! Me too! I would not run any of that 0-20 roofing tar in my car! -30w0 is the best!

Short form:
Spider webs are strange for humans to play with.

Of course, if high paid and very smart people use spider webs to depict things ..and you have high confidence that they aren't spiders, don't show your ignorance and play along like you belong to those who would chose them as a banging way to depict stuff (don't point out the shearing in 0w-40 since smart people seem to ignore it - if you don't ignore it, even if it's an invisible elephant in the room - you're implied ignorant).

Easier?

The same people that complained about GF-4 will complain about GF-5 while engines will continue to last longer then ever before. Too funny.

Thank you, SpotifireS. My spider sense was tingling and telling me something was unright. It may not be me this time

buster: I'm sure this will be the case. I have a feeling that the performance specs (wear, etc.) are being idled until some older technology retreats further into history.

Do engines last longer because the materials and manufacturing got better or because of the oil?
Or both?
And what percentage is materials, ect - vs - oil?
Is this a chicken & egg situation?

One can only test this half: use the latest GF-5 5w30 in a 60's engine.
Engine oil from the 60's is not available and if you find a quart it will not be usable anyway.
We need a fresh blend of 60's engine oil!

Oils have become better with time, not worse. Superior in almost every way unless you have a flat tappet cam engine. It's not just engine oils, but also materials and the manufacturing process too. My .02.
