I'm rebuilding an engine for my pickup. It's a large V8 with a flat tappit cam and lifters. I have a Proline PPL30001 filter that has the bypass on the wrong end of the filter and I have a FL1A that has the bypass on the threaded end.

The oil will be SAE30 Rotella and some Comp Cams break in additive thats supposed to help protect the cam.

Which filter should I use for the first 30 minutes of run time to break in the cam? Any other filters that would be a better choice?

Good question..........Been a 15 years or so since I rebuilt an engine.....

I rationalize Super Tech filters for Auto-Rx filters for clean and rinse runs. I am starting to wonder about using a filter like the Amsoil EA oil filter to keep contaminates out of suspension......just a thought.

I usually run Pure Ones on rebuilt motors. If I didnt have time to go to pep boys for one, I would just use a Mobil 1. For me I dont care about spending a little extra for better protection. A filtermag would acutually be a good idea as well. After break in I use Amsoil Eao.
